Cartoon Network Africa Animation Generation 2015 Competition Winners

DStv’s blog has revealed the winners of Cartoon Network Africa’s Animation Generation art competition, where children create a cartoon character that could potentially be Cartoon Network’s next animated star. This is the tenth year the competition has been running and this year the competition a had a staggering 25,913 entries.

Congratulations to Sivalingam Moodley from Crawford Preparatory (creator of Super Sky, 1st place winner of the 6-to-8 years category), Sufain Khan Mohamed from AYS Memorial Primary (creator of Captain Africa, 1st place winner of the 9-to-11 years category) and Michelle Pinheiro from Bedfordview Primary School (creator of Greg the Giraffe, 1st place winner of the 12-to-14 years category). The winners receive an iPad and a cash prize of 3,000 South African Rand for their schools. The winners will also get to see their artwork brought to life as an animation in a promo for Animation Generation on Cartoon Network Africa this December.

Not only these three children and their schools have benefited from the competition, but other schools such as Marian Ridge Primary School in KwaZulu-Natal, which had 1,515 competition entries and won 10,000 South African Rand for art supplies and equipment. Aiston Primary School in Gauteng won 7,000 ZAR for their school art department for their 1,436 entries and Berg Street Primary School in KwaZulu-Natal won 5,000 ZAR for entering 1,289 drawings. Cartoon Network’s other creative competition in Europe called Cartoon Network Imagination Studios will launch in Africa next year.

Pierre Branco, Vice President of Turner Southern Europe and Africa made this statement regarding the creativity of the competition’s entries:

“It was a mammoth task to select the finalists, and harder still to choose a specific winner, but we feel that everyone is a winner in Cartoon Network’s Animation Generation just by being creative, imaginative and all-round awesome!. The aim of this year’s competition was to give children the opportunity to let their imaginations run wild. We understand the integral role that creativity plays in the physical, social and emotional development of children worldwide. The entries we received this year were original, imaginative and of an exceptional standard. This has been a true collaboration between these talented children and Cartoon Network as we have worked closely with them to get their input on the story created around their heroes, Super Sky, Greg the Giraffe and Captain Africa”

You can see the winners artwork on DStv’s blog post or visit the Cartoon Network Animation Generation website to find out more.
