Cecilia Persson Appointed Cartoon Network EMEA Head Of Programming

Today (03/05/2016), Turner Broadcasting System Europe has appointed Cecilia Persson as the new Vice President for Programming and Content Strategy for Cartoon Network, Boomerang (and other associated kids channels) for the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) area. Cecilia Persson will oversee programming, co-production and acquisitions across Turner’s linear and digital services. In 2004, she joined Turner as director of acquisitions, and has been promoted from vice president of acquisitions and co-productions. Previously, Cecilia Persson worked at Middle Eastern pay-tv provider Showtime (now known as Orbit Showtime Network, better known as OSN) and before that at Carlton Cinema (a defunct British movie channel which was owned by Carlton, now part of ITV plc).

Persson will report to Patricia Hidalgo, Turner EMEA’s chief content & creative officer for kids content, Patricia Hidalgo also made this statement in regards of joining programming and content production together:

“There’s never been a more important time to bring together teams that produce winning programming strategies with those that source and create the best programmes our audiences crave across all platforms.”

Having won the hearts of children with Cartoon Network in Turkey, Turner is now preparing to launch its second flagship kids’ channel, Boomerang across the country. What’s more, Boomerang will become the first channel in Turkey’s history to launch on National Children’s Day (23rd April) – marking the perfect celebration for the brand, which plays host to fun and funny, timeless animation that the whole family can enjoy.

Available on D-Smart and Tivibu platforms from Friday 23rd April, Boomerang will offer viewers the latest episodes of classic, globally-loved animations such as The Tom & Jerry Show, Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Inspector Gadget, Mr Bean, Garfield and more; broadcast in HD.

Turner Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) today announced that Tarek Mounir is promoted to vice president and general manager Turkey, Middle East, North Africa, Greece & Cyprus.

Giorgio Stock, president Turner EMEA, said:

Under Tarek Mounir’s leadership, Turner has grown its channel footprint across kids, news and general entertainment, seen a sustained period of robust ad sales growth, engaged audiences with its growing brands, and developed a successful local content strategy through hits like Emirati cartoon Mansour in the UAE and Kral Sakir in Turkey. Mounir was hugely instrumental in innovative deals such as the soon-to-open Cartoon Network theme park zone, as well as the creation of Cartoon Network Studios Arabia. He also has revitalised the Turkey business since taking it over 18 months ago. Tarek Mounir will be reporting into Giorgio Stock.
