Cartoon Network UK 2016 Childrens BAFTA Press Release

Cartoon Network UK has posted their own press release regarding their three Children’s BAFTA wins on Sunday (20/11/2016), so far, Cartoon Network have won a total of thirteen Children’s BAFTAs to date. We Bare Bears winning best international TV show was an remarkable achievement, especially as the category was full of tough competition, with likes of Australian teen-drama Nowhere Boys, Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants and Nick Jr’s/CBeebies’ Peter Rabbit.

The Amazing World of Gumball had to compete against Shaun the Sheep, Stick Man and Disney XD’s Counterfeit Cat for best British animated show. Since its world premiere on Cartoon Network UK in 2011, The Amazing World of Gumball has won an amazing total of eight Children’s BAFTAs.

A whopping three awards for the top kids channel with We Bare Bears named Best International show and The Amazing World of Gumball; Best Writer and Best Animation.

UK-produced The Amazing World of Gumball was the big winner at last night’s (20/11/2016) Children’s BAFTA Awards scooping Best Writer and Best Animation and elevating the popular comedy cartoon’s all-time total BAFTA tally to eight. And Cartoon Network didn’t stop there with a win for hilarious cartoon, We Bare Bears in the Best International show category.

We Bare Bears charts the adventures of three adoptive bear brothers as they attempt to integrate as humans in the big city. The series beat off stiff competition in the international category from Nowhere Boys, SpongeBob SquarePants and Peter Rabbit. The Amazing World of Gumball, which follows the antics of blue cat Gumball Watterson and his adoptive goldfish brother Darwin, was up against the likes of Shaun the Sheep, Stick Man and Disney XD’s Counterfeit Cat.

Rapper Doc Brown hosted the ceremony which took place at The Roundhouse in Camden, London with long-time favourites, The Powerpuff Girls putting in a surprise appearance on the red carpet much to the delight of waiting fans.

These latest accolades bring Cartoon Network’s award-wins to 13 this year alone.

Triathlete Brownlee Brothers Partner With Cartoon Network UK For Buddy Network Anti Bullying Campaign

British Olympic triathlete champions, Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee have partnered with Cartoon Network UK to support the next stage of Cartoon Network’s anti-bullying campaign – Cartoon Network Buddy Network. National Anti-Bullying Week in the UK officially started today (Monday 14th November). Bullying is the main reason for Childline counselling for 11 and unders over the past 10 years, the severity of the problem in schools across the country was reason why the campaign was set up. The Buddy Network initiative encourages kids and young people to “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully” by being friendly and respectful to each other; the campaign aims to raise awareness and empower young people to help put an end to bullying.

Cartoon Network UK is working alongside Childline, the UK’s leading helpline for children and young people to provide immediate advice and support for those in need, the freephone hotline is operated by the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) charity.

From today (14/11/2016) Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee will appear in an on-air campaign on Cartoon Network, the campaign features an original series of animated shorts voiced by children telling positive messages around friendship, school and appreciating differences. Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee both had first-hand experience of being bullied in school, and chose sport as a way to boost their confidence and self-esteem, they later went on to win Olympic medals at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic games. The brothers are an inspiring example to kids everywhere that are currently suffering from the same situation they went through.

Cartoon Network launches national anti-bullying initiative in partnership with Childline.

British triathlete brothers, Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee have partnered with Cartoon Network UK to support the latest phase of its anti-bullying campaign, CN BUDDY NETWORK. Launching today in line with National Anti-Bullying Week, the initiative encourages kids and young people to “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully” and aims to raise awareness and empower young people to take positive action against bullying.

Cartoon Network is collaborating with Childline, the NSPCC’s leading UK helpline for children and young people to provide immediate advice and support for those in need. Bullying remains a major concern for children, over the last decade bullying has been cited as the main reason for Childline counselling in children aged 11 and under – with 24% of all Childline counselling sessions in 2015/16 about the issue.

Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee appear in an on-air campaign on Cartoon Network premiering today (14th November), which also features an original series of animated shorts voiced by children who, in their own words, articulate positive messages around friendship, school and appreciating differences. We believe that bullying at its core is an issue of self-confidence, so we would encourage kids to get out there and take up an activity they absolutely love to help build their self-esteem. Sports gave Jonny and I the confidence to stand up to bullying and not let them get us down. If you’re being bullied, please remember that it’s not your fault, tell a teacher, friend or family member and we promise, things will get better.”

Turner UK And Virgin Media Renew Distribution Deal Also VOD Content

Today (11/11/2016), British and Irish cable television operator Virgin Media have renewed their distribution deal with Turner UK, the deal includes the continued carriage of Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito, TCM and CNN International. As part of the deal, Virgin Media Ireland customers will now receive Cartoon Network HD, alongside the existing standard definition channel. Virgin Media UK customers will continue to receive HD versions of Cartoon Network and TCM. No news has been announced regarding Boomerang HD on Virgin Media’s cable television service yet.

As part of the deal, Turner’s children’s channels will also provide content for a 30 days catchup VOD (Video On-Demand) service as well as on-demand boxsets of Cartoon Network’s, Boomerang’s and Cartoonito’s most popular shows including Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls, Regular Show, Scooby Doo, Mr Bean: The Animated Series, The Tom and Jerry Show and Fireman Sam.

Virgin Media’s parent company – Liberty Global is one of Turner’s largest channel distribution partners in Europe which also has cable television services in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany and Eastern Europe.

David Bouchier, Virgin Media’s chief Digital Entertainment officer made this statement in regards to the renewed and expanded deal with Turner:

“Our new deal with Turner means our customers will be able to access a wealth of on-demand programmes, as well as continuing to enjoy some of the very best TV from channels as diverse as Cartoon Network, TCM and CNN International. We are committed to giving our customers the very best TV to watch, when and how they want, and it’s fantastic to work with partners who think in the same way.”

As the distribution deal with Virgin Media has been renewed, new Cartoon Network UK, Boomerang UK and Cartoonito UK promos will continue to be uploaded onto the RegularCapital YouTube channel.
