Cartoon Network USA Mighty Magiswords New Show Promo Now Airing
Cartoon Network USA has started to air a promo for Cartoon Network Studios’ latest animated show – Mighty Magiswords. Created by Kyle Carrozza, the show is about two protagonists – Vambre and Prohyas, a brother and sister team of “Warriors for Hire”, who go on hilarious adventures and crazy quests to collect magical swords with unusual abilities. In order to collect all the swords, both Vambre and Prohyas must travel around the world.
Mighty Magiswords originally premiered on the Cartoon Network Anything app and CartoonNetwork.com website as a three-minute digital short-form animated show last year, initially, 10 three minute episodes were produced. Cartoon Network will continue to produce digital shorts of Mighty Magiswords, but instead each mini-episode will be five minutes in length, the first of these episodes debuted yesterday (15/08/2016). The first of these five minute length episodes is called “Warriors for Hire”, in this episode Vambre and Prohyas open their warrior hire business for the first time. The next two shorts are due to air this autumn.
Mighty Magiswords will make its debut as a fully-fledged eleven minute per episode show this autumn on Cartoon Network USA. The first episode is called “The Mystery of Loch Mess”, in this episode, Prohyas and Vambre try to stop Queen Porcina (voiced by Judy Tenuta) from capturing delivery folks.
This week (13/06/2016 – 18/06/2016) is the Annecy Animation Festival in Annecy, France. The Annecy Animation Festival is the largest convention dedicated to animation in the world, for both major and independent producers of animation. As usual, Cartoon Network is there to promote their current and upcoming animated programming.
The creator of Samurai Jack, Genndy Tartakovsky is at the animation festival to give a “work-in-progress” presentation of the returning series. People attending the session will get to see the progress already made on the new series. Samurai Jack originally aired on Cartoon Network between 2001 and 2004 and will be making a return to Adult Swim USA later this year. The new series will continue from where the story ended.
Cartoon Network as a whole will have a session at the festival showcasing action-animation on Thursday 16th June under the title “It’s Hero Time”. The session will have representatives from Cartoon Network USA and Cartoon Network EMEA, including Haley Mancini (staff writer on the new Powerpuff Girls) and animator Kyle Carrozza, the creator of Mighty Magiswords, which is now becoming a fully-fledged animated series. Both Mancini and Carrozza will discuss the creative process behind scriptwriting for The Powerpuff Girls and the development behind Mighty Magiswords. Following the talk, there will be a special sneak peek of the Ben 10 reboot which is currently in production. In terms of management, Patricia Hidalgo (Chief Content and Creative Officer of Kids EMEA and International Kids Strategy) and Tramm Wigzell (Vice-President of Multi-Platform Development at Cartoon Network Studios) will also be speakers.
Before the main event on Thursday, Cartoon Network will be hosting a smaller acquisitions MIFA event tomorrow (15/06/2016), with Adina Pitt, USA Content Acquisitions and Co-Productions and Cecilia Persson, Vice President of Programming and Content Strategy Kids EMEA, Acquisitions and Co-productions International.
Sister animation studio, Warner Animation Group unveiled their upcoming animated feature “Storks” at the festival today, Brad Lewis, the film’s producer will also be having a signing session tomorrow (15/06/2016). Storks is an action-packed, funny and heartfelt new animated adventure about finding your family in the most unlikely way.

The Powerpuff Girls reboot pre-premiere party and screening weren’t the only events Cartoon Network arranged at SXSW (South By Southwest Festival) this week, on Thursday 17th March, Cartoon Network hosted a panel at the Austin Convention Center called “Cartoon Network: Disrupting with Post-Its and Pencils”, featuring Ian Jones-Quartey (Animator/Supervising Director for Steven Universe, creator of the Lakewood Plaza Turbo animated short), Julia Pott (Creator of Summer Camp), Kyle Carrozza (Creator of Mighty Magiswords), Pete Browngardt (Creator of Uncle Grandpa) and Rob Sorcher (Global Content Officer for Cartoon Network). The panel humorously explained that the use of pencils and Post-it notes to draw ideas helps with creativity and is influencing the future of storytelling. Cartoon Network is known for its Emmy and Peabody Award-winning formula by putting creators first, encouraging digital collaborations, and having a high level of flexibility in creativity.
On Monday 12th March, Cartoon Network and Lego hosted a joint panel, this is to reflect on the current collaboration and partnership between Cartoon Network and Lego, with shows such as Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, Mixels and Lego: Nexo Knights. Jill Wilfert (Vice President of Licensing and Entertainment at Lego), Michael Moynihan (Vice President of Marketing at Lego), Michael Ouweleen (Cartoon Network’s Chief Marketing Officer) and Tramm Wigzell (Vice President of Multi Platform Development for Cartoon Network Studios) were present at the panel.
