Cartoon Network Studios Launches New Website

The animation production division of Cartoon Network – Cartoon Network Studios has launched its very own website. The new website lists animation job advertisements ranging from background artists to character designers. The new site also has a section for animation students to apply for an internship to gain experience at the Burbank, California based studio. Students on the internship programme will get the opportunity to work with Cartoon Network’s top talent and work on the several aspects and stages of cartoon production.

On the new site there’s also a section listing the different shows currently in production, including Regular Show, Ben 10, We Bare Bears and many others. There’s a news section too, with links to people’s stories about their time working at the studio and also advice from Steven Universe creator – Rebecca Sugar for aspiring animation artists.

The website’s graphics is based on the channel’s branding featuring looping animations of its famous cartoon characters, gradients and patterns (hover over the different sections of the Cartoon Network logo on the homepage for links and random animations), the website is visually appealing and is an interactive piece of art, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Cartoon Network Africa Imagination Studios Winners

Cartoon Network Africa have announced their winners in their inaugural Cartoon Network Imagination Studios competition. Cartoon Network Imagination Studios is a competition where kids can explore their creativity, by either drawing an original cartoon character, storyboarding a short cartoon or make their own stop-motion animation. Kids can get advice and inspiration from Cartoon Network’s top creative talent and show creators on the Imagination Studios microsite. The competition had a total of 5,159 entries.

The winners are 10-year-old Tiffany Obasohan from Nigeria in the drawing category for drawing an ice cream younger sister for Sarah in The Amazing World of Gumball. Nyasha Mazarura, an 11-year-old from South Africa, won in the movie category for a stop-motion animation of two Peanut Butter and Jelly toastie superheroes battling a pepper shaker and 11-year-old Onyamaechi Christian Yobo from Nigeria, won in the storyboard category for a Spidermonkey vs Lion Lord wrestling match storyboard. Congratulations to those who won!

Pierre Branco, VP, Turner Southern Europe and Africa, stated that the Imagination Studios website was a milestone for Cartoon Network’s commitment for children to use their creative skills:

“The website is an important milestone in the network’s commitment to helping children learn and develop their skills online – using the channel’s affinity with young audiences to do so. With Cartoon Network Imagination Studios, the channel would like to provide children with the unique opportunity to express their creativity through whichever medium they like best.”

As part of their prize package, the winners’ entries will be turned into an animation which will air on Cartoon Network Africa in mid-August.

Cartoon Network Imagination Studios Microsite Now Online

The Cartoon Network Imagination Studios microsite is now live on CartoonNetwork.co.uk (Cartoon Network UK and Ireland) and CartoonNetwork.fr (Cartoon Network France), on the new microsite are activities on how to draw cartoon characters, make your own storyboards for Adventure Time and The Amazing World of Gumball and behind the scenes videos of Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball, Steven Universe and Uncle Grandpa. The videos include interviews with the creators, producers, writers and voice actors of the shows, the different types of animation used in The Amazing World of Gumball (2D and 3D) and stop motion animation in Adventure Time. The purpose of this microsite is to inform kids on how their favourite cartoons are made and to expand their imagination and to inspire them.

Cartoon Network Imagination Studios Awards

The launch of Cartoon Network Imagination Studios will be followed by the Cartoon Network Imagination Studios Awards which will be open for entries from 1st September. The competition for the UK will get schools involved and Cartoon Network will provide them a specially made teacher toolkit, allowing primary schools to get involved as part of their lessons. Kids taking part in the competition will be able to write storyboards, make animations and drawings. In addition, the UK campaign will be supported by the British Film Institute (BFI), which will host a special Funday event on 28th October and will take part in judging the competition entries.

The Cartoon Network Imagination Studios microsite is currently rolling out across Cartoon Network websites for country feeds in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
