Adventure Time To End In 2018

Today (29/09/2016), Cartoon Network has announced that one of their biggest shows – Adventure Time, is going to end. Not to worry, the show is not ending immediately, it will end in 2018 which is still some time away. At the end of its run of eight years, Adventure Time will have a total of nine full seasons, only beating Regular Show by one season. At the end of the show’s run, a total of 71 hours worth of episodes would of have been produced by Adventure Time’s production team.

The show is known for its multitude of lovable and funny characters and the massive world of The Land of Ooo (with a variety of places like the Candy Kingdom, The Nightosphere, Lumpy Space etc.) enabled the show to create several stories because the show was only limited to the imagination of show’s writers. Finn and Jake – the show’s protagonists have taken the show’s viewers on loads of adventures, with heart pounding action scenes and plenty of laughs along the way. The show has been a success worldwide and has aired not only on Cartoon Network but also on numerous other channels from around the world including CITV (also on main network ITV on Saturday mornings) in the UK, Gulli in France, Chilevision in Chile and Nickelodeon in Germany.

In the run up to the show’s end in 2018, there will be new half-hour episodes and specials, also a feature length Adventure Time movie is currently in production with Warner Bros. Pictures.

Adventure Time is the longest running show in Cartoon Network Studios’ history, so far the show has won six Primetime Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, two Annie Awards and two Children BAFTA’s (British Academy of Film and Television Arts). With Regular Show, Uncle Grandpa, The Amazing World of Gumball and Adventure Time ending, this marks the end of an era on Cartoon Network, a channel that is constantly evolving, originally emerging from a single animation archive channel in the United States launched in 1992 to the international animation powerhouse and broadcaster its known today.

Rob Sorcher, chief content officer for Cartoon Network made this statement regarding Adventure Time’s achievement of being one of the most successful children’s television shows in a generation:

“Adventure Time changed the definition of what a kids’ TV series could be, and it’s had a resounding impact upon popular culture around the world. Cartoon Network Studios is proud to have brought together this group of brilliant artists and animators who helped make Adventure Time one of the most critically acclaimed TV series of a generation.”

Pendleton Ward, the show’s creator, commented that the show’s crew have put a lot of passion and enthusiasm during the production of Adventure Time:

“Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories. We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”
