New Toonami Block On Cartoon Network Taiwan

Yesterday (09/07/2016), Cartoon Network Taiwan launched their very own Toonami programming block. Toonami is Cartoon Network’s international action-animation channel brand which has recently been going through a revival, with the relaunch of the block on Adult Swim in the United States, channel launches in Southeast Asia, India and Thailand and the launch of Toonami France which has reintroduced the brand in Europe.

The new Toonami block airs every weekend at 7.30pm, with two new shows from launch – Dragon Ball Super and Xiaolin Chronicles, Kaitou Joker will also premiere in the block on Saturday 30th July. The block at the moment also features the anime Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy and the Cartoon Network Australia co-production – Exchange Student Zero. Wakfu will be added to the block from 30th July.

It has now been officially confirmed that The Powerpuff Girls 2016 reboot series will premiere on Cartoon Network USA on Monday 4th March at 6pm (ET/PT), from this date, the girls will be powering back up and will continue to fight crime before bedtime. Cartoon Network Asia-Pacific have also confirmed that The Powerpuff Girls reboot will premiere across the region on Saturday 9th April, including Cartoon Network Southeast Asia and Cartoon Network India. The premiere will also be simulcasted on Boomerang, Toonami and POGO as well as Turner’s sister entertainment channels in the Asia-Pacific region including Oh!K, TCM (Turner Classic Movies), Warner TV and truTV. The list of channels taking part in the premiere also includes Astro Ceria in Malaysia and TV5 in the Philippines.

Mark Eyers, chief kids content officer at Turner Asia Pacific made this statement about the new Powerpuff Girls reboot:

“‘The Powerpuff Girls’ will be simply everywhere! Whatever channel you turn to on April 9, and whatever screen you’re using, there will be Blossom, Buttercup and Bubbles saving the day before bedtime! We’ve waited a long time to see these super-cute and super-fierce girls return to action, and the all-new series marks the return for one of Cartoon Network’s best-loved franchises.”

Cartoon Network UK will premiere the series sometime between Monday 28th March and Saturday 16th April.

The Standard, a newspaper based in the Philippines had an exclusive interview with Phil Nelson, Turner’s Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Southeast Asia. In the interview, Mr Nelson stated that according to Kantar Media’s statistics, Cartoon Network continues to be the most popular kids channel in the Philippines for the fourth consecutive year with a 31% market share. Also according to the interview, both The Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10 reboots will premiere in 2016 on Cartoon Network Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, Toonami Southeast Asia will premiere Dragon Ball Super, this will be the international premiere of the new installment of the Dragonball franchise. Turner Southeast Asia also have plans for Boomerang this year too, they will make distribution deals with more pay-tv providers in the Philippines and will premiere Bunnicula later this year.
