Boomerang USA To Air Peanuts Shorts This Autumn
Turner Broadcasting System USA has brought the broadcasting rights for 500 animated Peanuts shorts from Francetv distribution, the commercial distribution division of the French public service broadcaster – France Télévisions. The shorts were produced by French studio Normaal and Peanuts Worldwide last year but they haven’t aired in the United States yet. The Peanuts shorts will air on Boomerang USA this Autumn coinciding with the theatrical release of The Peanuts Movie. The shorts currently air in 20 territories but this will be the first time they will air in an English speaking nation.
The comic strip known as “Peanuts” was created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz and has been syndicated in newspapers all of the world, to the extent that the two main characters, Charlie Brown and Snoopy are instantly recognised by newspaper readers and cartoon fans alike. The animated shorts will retain Schulz’s art style as well as the style of the Bill Melendez-produced animated specials and films of the 1960s, 1970’s and 1980’s. The Peanuts Movie, also based upon the comic strip, will be out in cinemas in United States on Friday 6th November. The film will be released as Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie in the United Kingdom and Australia. The UK release date for the movie is Monday 21st December.
