Boomerang USA Streaming Service Acquires Rights To New Wind In The Willows Animated Series

According to an exclusive story from The Hollywood Reporter, Turner USA’s and Warner Bros’ classic animation streaming service – Boomerang has acquired the U.S. rights to a brand new animated series adapted from the British children’s novel – The Wind in the Willows distributed by UK based Hoho Entertainment.

The new animated series is produced by animation industry veteran Martin Gates and Hoho’s producer and managing director – Oliver Ellis. The series will include a total of 52 episodes with a runtime of 11 minutes. Written in 1908 by Kenneth Grahame, the book follows the adventures of Mole, Rat, Badger and the wealthy and eccentric Mr. Toad. The book has been adapted into several TV series’ and movies (both animated and live action). More that 85 million copies of the book has been sold and it has been translated into 29 different languages.

Martin Gates is known for his work in the animation industry, which includes feature-length versions of children’s stories including The Ugly Duckling, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Snow Queen, it’s not his first time using Wind of the Willows as source material, he also produced a half-hour Christmas special based on the book called Mole’s Christmas, which was nominated for an International Emmy.

Martin Gates, the producer of the new animated series said:

Twenty years on, we feel the time is right to breathe new life into the stories for a whole new generation of children, rediscovering beloved old characters and introducing some new female ones including adventurous Squirrel, resourceful Rabbit and the scheming Chief Weasel. There are just so many more stories to tell.”
