During this week (Monday 9th to Thursday 12th April) is the MIPTV 2018, (Marché International des Programmes de Télévision, English: International Television Programmes Market) convention in Cannes, France, an important event in the television content market calendar. Yesterday (10th April), Cartoon Network USA’s vice president of Content Acquisitions and Co-Productions – Adina Pitt was a speaker at MIPTV’s International Emmy Kids Awards Nominee Showcase conference, the event was an opportunity for people in the media industry to find out more about the producers of some of the best children’s programming this year. The International Emmy Kids Awards Nominee Showcase coincided with this year’s International Emmy Kids Awards which was also held at MIPTV yesterday.

At the conference, Adina Pitt has said that animation studios are going “back-to-basics” by focusing more on traditional 2D animation, as opposed to 3D CGI animation. She also mentioned there’s a lot more diversity in animation these days and there’s lot more focus on show writing. She also mentioned there’s some universal themes in pre-school programming including kindness, social values, friendship and sharing.
