Turner Asia-Pacific Appoints Leslie Lee As Head Of Kids Content

Today (15th April), Turner Asia-Pacific has appointed Leslie Lee as Vice President of Kids Content, in his new role, Leslie will oversee Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Pogo in the Asia Pacific region. From today, Leslie will be based at Turner’s offices in Singapore and will be responsible for programming, operations, brand and franchise management as well as content for the three kids brands.

In total, Leslie has more than two decades’ experience in the entertainment industry in the Asia-Pacific region, including 19 years working with kids media brands on both linear TV and digital content distribution.

Leslie has previously worked for MediaCorp, Viacom and he was recently Executive Director of Media Networks at Disney Southeast Asia, he joined Disney in 2007. He has worked in multiple aspects of children’s entertainment broadcasting including marketing communications, programming, channel management, content localisation and acquisitions, animation development and media distribution.

In addition to his usual job, Leslie also volunteers his time mentoring media students in various higher learning institutions in Singapore, he also sits on the programming committee at the Asian Festival of Children’s Content and is a board member of Centre 42, a Singapore-based non-profit playwriting organisation.

Leslie Lee has been named Vice President of Kids Content, overseeing Cartoon Network, Boomerang and POGO networks in Asia Pacific, and assumes the role today.

Based in Singapore, his responsibilities includes the programming, operations, brand and franchise management, as well as the content direction for the three brands.

Ricky Ow, President of Turner Asia Pacific, said: “It’s rare to meet someone quite so passionate about Kids content and Leslie is a great addition to our regional management team. I’m looking forward to Leslie bringing his experience, fresh perspective and new ideas to help us to grow our leadership position in the Kids space.”

Leslie has more than two decades’ experience and expertise in the entertainment industry across numerous Asian markets. This includes 19 years on Kids brands working on both linear TV and digital aspects of the business.

Leslie added: “I’m a huge fan of pop culture and animation, and I’ve now got the opportunity to work with some of the very best brands and most iconic franchises ever created. It’s a fantastic opportunity and it’s a privilege to be a part of a great team.”

Tomorrow (12th April), Cartoon Network will be releasing volume two of the Steven Universe soundtrack, which will be available on digital download and streaming services. The Steven Universe: Volume 2 Soundtrack will consist twelve tracks, including three memorable songs – “Change Your Mind”, “For Just One Day Let’s Only Think (Love)”, and “Sadie Killer and the Suspects”. The Steven Universe: Volume 2 Soundtrack includes all songs up until the end of the most recent season – Season 5, which ended with the dramatic four-part episode – Change Your Mind. The prior release – Steven Universe: Volume 1 Soundtrack was released last June.

Cartoon Network Enterprises Asia Pacific has partnered with well known Indian fashion designer – Nandita Mahtani to launch a clothing collection based on classic Cartoon Network shows from the channel’s first decade – the 1990’s.

The Cartoon Network and Nandita Mahtani capsule collection is inspired by The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Dexter’s Laboratory, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Samurai Jack. Nandita Mahtani held an exclusive special preview at Sancho’s in Mumbai, India on Friday last week (Friday 5th April) to unveil the collection. The fashion collection combines animated 90’s nostalgia with high-end fashion house clothing.

Each Nandita Mahtani design features a mix of intricate hand embroidery, sequins, beads and embellishments with a vibrant range of neon pop colours. The fashion collection includes slip dresses, skirts, bomber, zipper and denim jackets and sweat-shirts and many more. The collection also includes a men’s capsule, which has pop-art prints, characters and beaded lettering. Each creatively designed fashion piece depicts the original “Cartoon Cartoons”* characters produced by Cartoon Network. The clothing collection has target age of 16 to 60 years old. A children’s clothing collection is also in the works. In the second half of 2019, the collection will be available in retail and online stores.
