Sportswear Brand Champion Partners With Cartoon Network USA For Powerpuff Girls 20th Anniversary Streetwear Collection

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Powerpuff Girls, Cartoon Network USA has partnered with sportswear brand – Champion for a Powerpuff Girls themed streetwear collection. The clothing collection includes hoodies, a crewneck sweater and joggers featuring Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup. A cream coloured hoodie in the collection features the three superpowered girls in black and white with the sleeves featuring the Champion logo. Matching hoodie and jogger sets will be available in grey and red.

Fans will be able to pick up the new clothing on https://www.champion.com in the upcoming week. A Powerpuff Girls-themed party will be held at Champion’s store in New York City on Saturday 26th January beginning at 10am ET. Attendees will be able to create screen-printed T-shirts and enjoy a day of photo-ops.

Today (4th January), Cartoon Network’s longest running original animated series – Ed, Edd n Eddy celebrates its 20th anniversary. The show was created by Canadian animator and director – Danny Antonucci. Ed, Edd n Eddy premiered on Cartoon Network USA on 4th January 1999 and ended its long and successful run on 8th November 2009, not only its been 20 years since the show hit the airwaves, but its also nearly ten years since it ended. The show has aired on Cartoon Network all over the world and became an international success, it can also be considered to be one of the most successful shows on Cartoon Network that was not made by Cartoon Network Studios. In fact, Ed, Edd and Eddy was made by Danny Antonucci’s own studio – A.K.A. Cartoon.

Ed, Edd n Eddy follows a simple premise, the show follows three young boys each having a nickname variation of the same name, together they devise schemes to scam other kids in their street so they can buy jawbreakers, however not everything goes to plan and their schemes often backfire with consequences and with failure and humiliation. All three main characters have diverse personalities, the leader is Edd, he’s greedy, selfish and hot-tempered he also comes up with the group’s plans and always has the determination to follow it through. Edd (aka Double D), is the smartest of the group and also the most considerate, he gets on quite well with the other kids unlike the other two “Eds” and usually offers good advice. Ed is the strongest of the group, but is also the least intelligent but is good-natured, he also says some of the most funniest and memorable quotes from the show.

Other kids in the show include Jonny 2×4, a lonely kid who has a plank of wood called “Plank”, hence the nickname “2×4”, there’s also a Jimmy, he’s weak, insecure and accident-prone, he often hangs out with Ed’s bad tempered younger sister – Sarah. Rolf is an immigrant, he’s somewhat quirky and partakes in some odd customs, there’s also Kevin, a cynical jock who’s also considered to be the “coolest” among all the kids in the street, he also hates the “Eds”. Kevin is often seen with a girl named Nazz, who’s also the main love interest in the show, where almost all the boys have a crush on. Finally, there’s the Kanker Sisters, a gang of three teenaged girls that the kids fear the most, they live on a trailer park and have a crush on the Eds.

Although, Ed, Edd and Eddy was somewhat of a slice-of-life show that kids could relate to but it also has its odd moments, also no adult in the show makes a full appearance, not up until the show’s – the 90 minute movie – “Ed, Edd n Eddy’s Big Picture Show”, where the Ed’s go a trip to find Eddy’s older brother.

For the 20th anniversary of The Powerpuff Girls and for the international “Empowerpuff” campaign introduced this week, Cartoon Network India has partnered with The Souled Store to announce the country’s first ever “The POW-fect Girls” – which is a list featuring 20 influential woman in India. The 20 powerful women influencers have vocations varying from acting, sports and athletics, social activism, business to entrepreneurship. “The POW-fect Girls” are role-models who have triumphed and made their own way to success.

Also for the show’s 20th anniversary, Cartoon Network India is running a competition for viewers to win a trip for three people to the Cartoon Network Amazone Water Theme Park in Thailand. To enter the competition, CN fans must tag their own Powerpuff Girls Squad, further details will be announced on Cartoon Network APAC’s (Asia-Pacific) Facebook page and also The Souled Store’s own Instagram and Facebook pages. The Souled Store is an online pop-culture retailer in India that also sells Powerpuff Girls merchandise.
