Adult Swim And Anime Streaming Service Crunchyroll Announce Partnership

Today (12th March) Cartoon Network USA’s nightly young adult programming service – Adult Swim and Ellation’s Crunchyroll have announced that they have announced a programming partnership for Adult Swim’s Japanese anime block – Toonami which airs on Saturday nights. From now on, both Crunchyroll and Adult Swim will work together on licensed content, co-productions and distribution opportunities. The news of the partnership follows the announcement of a corporate reshuffle at WarnerMedia last week which led to the break up of Cartoon Network’s owners – Turner, causing CN, Boomerang and Adult Swim to move to Warner Bros’s brand new Global Kids and Young Adults division. Meanwhile, Ellation (Crunchyroll’s owners) was also transferred to Warner Bros. At present, Turner is still a going concern until the complex process of restructuring at WarnerMedia is completed.

Crunchyroll was founded in 2006 and WarnerMedia inherited the streaming service through its merger with telecommunications company AT&T, last August, AT&T fully acquired Otter Media, the owners of Ellation, which itself owns Crunchyroll.

Ever since the Time Warner/AT&T merger, Adult Swim and Crunchyroll have worked together and even announced a new anime series called Blade Runner – Black Lotus based on the Oscar-winning movie Blade Runner 2049, which is co-produced by Alcon Television Group. The English-dubbed episodes will premiere on Toonami in the United States and Crunchyroll will handle worldwide streaming. Crunchyroll and Adult Swim have also collaborated to distribute the anime series – Mob Psycho 100, which premiered on the Toonami programming block last year.

Jason DeMarco, senior vice president, creative director for on-air at Adult Swim and co-creator of Toonami, made this statement in regards of the new partnership with Crunchyroll:

“Our partnership with Crunchyroll will open up exciting new possibilities for both of us. This will expand Toonami’s already great programming to include even more premiere and original anime. It’s a great time to be an anime fan!”

Crunchyroll’s general manager – Joanne Waage also added:

“Our mission is to grow anime globally, which makes Adult Swim the perfect partner as Toonami has been incredibly influential in the growth of anime here in the U.S. We can’t wait to show our fans what we have in store for them through this new programming partnership. Expect new co-productions, expanded distribution of dubs, and generally more accessible anime!”

Adult Swim USA New Show Tigtone Premieres 13th January

This Sunday (13th January) at 12am ET/PT, Adult Swim will premiere a brand new show – Tigtone. The show takes place in a satirical medieval fantasy universe, Tigtone – the show’s legendary quest-addicted titular character fights through this strange, absurd and melodramatic place, he always obeys the law by never its spirit, he also has an appropriately named eager sidekick – Helpy at his side.

The brand new show is created by Andrew Koehler and Benjamin Martian, with Blake Anderson, the co-creator of Comedy Central’s Workaholics serving as an executive producer. Tigtone is animated by Titmouse, the same studio behind Adult Swim’s The Venture Bros and Ballmastrz: 9009 and is produced by Babyhemyth Productions. Tigtone features several references from fantasy RPGs (role playing games), video games, and films. Tigtone makes use of highly rendered, hand-painted fantasy art, motion capture acting, 2D animation and 3D-like visual effects producing an unusual but unique and visually impressive effect.

Tigtone is voiced by musician Nils Frykdahl, his sidekick – Helpy voiced by Debi Derryberry (voice of Jimmy Neutron in Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius). The show’s regular cast also features Bill Corbett (Mystery Science Theater), Lucy Davis (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), John DiMaggio (Jake from Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time), Cree Summer (Atlantis: The Lost Empire), and Gary Anthony Williams (The Lion Guard) plus many more.

Special guests in the show’s first season include include Alan Oppenheimer (Passions), Gregg Turkington (On Cinema), John Waters (Feud), Fred Willard (Anchorman) and many more.

The first two episode of Tigtone as well as the show’s pilot can be viewed on the Adult Swim USA website and on the Adult Swim app.

From The Adult Swim USA Press Release: Tigtone Slays His Way to Adult Swim on January 13th

The quest begins Sunday, January 13th at Midnight ET/PT on Adult Swim. See the all-new trailer:

The New Year brings epic adventures for Adult Swim’s new animated series, Tigtone, premiering Sunday, January 13th at Midnight ET/PT. This quarter-hour series is created by Andrew Koehler and Benjamin Martian, who also serve as executive producers with Blake Anderson (Workaholics).

Tigtone is the saga of a quest-addicted hero (Tigtone) who slashes his way through a satirical fantasy universe with melodramatic ferocity and a complete disregard for the collateral damage he inflicts along the way. The series both celebrates and subverts tropes of the fantasy genre, role playing games, video games, and films.

Combining highly rendered, hand-painted fantasy art, motion capture performance, 2D animation, and pseudo-3D visual effects, the wizards at Titmouse have ventured into uncharted territory to pioneer this radical new style, creating a Tigtone universe that is beautifully unsettling.

A colorful cast of characters include Tigtone’s eager sidekick, Helpy, voiced by Debi Derryberry (Jimmy Neutron) and newcomer, Nils Frykdahl, who voices Tigtone. Among the regular cast are Bill Corbett (Mystery Science Theater), Lucy Davis (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), John DiMaggio (Adventure Time), Cree Summer (Atlantis: The Lost Empire), and Gary Anthony Williams (The Lion Guard) to name a few.

Special guest stars this season include Alan Oppenheimer (Passions), Gregg Turkington (On Cinema), John Waters (Feud), Fred Willard (Anchorman), and more.
