Sunshine Brownstone Pilot Now On Cartoon Network USA’s YouTube Channel

Yesterday (17th November) Cartoon Network USA has uploaded the pilot episode for Sunshine Brownstone onto their YouTube channel. The Sunshine Brownstone pilot was produced at Cartoon Network Studios and is created by Audie Harrison – creative director for Cartoon Network’s Uncle Grandpa and writer and storyboard artist on Secret Mountain Fort Awesome.

Sunshine Brownstone is home to an enthusiastic elephant named Gene, his pal Balloon, and a mixture of strange and unusual characters. In each episode, the residents of Sunshine Brownstone teach the audience learn about a special theme, but viewers don’t actually learn much. This episode’s theme is “Imagination”, Gene thinks teaching Balloon on how to use his imagination is way more important than fixing a major water leak in the basement which is causing the whole building to flood.

The pilot episode of Cartoon Network’s 2004 animated series – Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi has been uploaded onto the Vimeo video sharing website. Thanks to the Vimeo user – Lincar Rox and to show director and co-founder of Renegade Animation – Darrell van Citters, the pilot episode is now online for everyone to see. Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi follows the adventures of two female Japanese pop stars with completely different personalities: Yumi Yoshimura, a punk rocker and Ami Onuki, a cheerful girly-girl. Both characters are based off the real Japanese pop band Puffy AmiYumi.

The pilot episode is about seven minutes long and follows Ami and Yumi on their first ever trip to the United States, at first, they find America to be a strange place and have a few mishaps during their holiday, but then, they soon realised they’ve actually enjoyed their time in America. The pilot is an early concept of the show, the character and background designs have changed, and the band manager in the show – Kaz is absent from the pilot. The show’s creator – Sam Register is now the president of Warner Bros. Animation.

The pilot’s rough and clean-up animation was hand-drawn, scanned and then vectorised in Adobe Streamline and then coloured and compositioned in Flash, but when the show was greenlit, the production crew at Renegade Animation used Flash for the entire animation process.
