Cartoon Network EMEA and USA have announced today (22/06/2016), that The Amazing World of Gumball has been renewed for a sixth season. The six-time BAFTA and Emmy award winning show has been an international hit and production for the show’s sixth season has already begun at Cartoon Network’s Europe, Middle East and Africa’s animation studio, Great Marlborough Productions based in Shoreditch, London, England, UK.

The show is currently in its fourth season, the show is about the surreal misadventures of a young mischievous blue cat named Gumball and his dysfunctional family, The Wattersons. The show utilises a combination of different art styles such as 2D and 3D animation and photoshopped photographic backdrops and is known for its variety of characters, its humour and warm-hearted charm. Season five will begin airing this September on Cartoon Network’s international feeds and season six will premiere in the United States and Canada next year. Season four of The Amazing World of Gumball is currently airing on Cartoon Network’s international feeds.

The series is created by Ben Bocquelet, executive produced by Sarah Fell and series-directed by Mic Graves. The Amazing World of Gumball reached a total of 165 million viewers across the globe in the first quarter of 2016. The Amazing World of Gumball now has over nine million fans on Facebook and the show’s YouTube channel had eight million views alone this year.

In terms of mobile games based on the show, Agent Gumball reached #1 overall in the iTunes charts on iPad in five countries and #1 in the Kids category in 27 countries. Last year’s EMEA-developed app Rainbow Ruckus also ranked number one in the iTunes paid apps chart in 27 countries across the globe and was a top #5 paid app in 65 countries in its launch week. Cartoon Network today announces that it has greenlit a sixth season of the global hit animated series, The Amazing World of Gumball, further building on the studio’s hugely successful comedy slate and the show’s outstanding performance to date. Produced in the UK and Germany, the mixed media family sitcom has become a global favorite since it first launched in 2010.

The multiple award-winning series has scooped 28 international awards to date including six BAFTAs and an Emmy®. Production began this month at Cartoon Network’s EMEA studio, Great Marlborough Productions, in Shoreditch, London. Season five is slated to begin airing from September 2016 internationally and is set to premiere next year in North America.

Yesterday (24/04/2016), The Amazing World of Gumball show creator, Ben Bocquelet did a special guest talk and masterclass about his experience making the show in front of an audience of fans at the Cardiff Independent Film Festival in Cardiff, Wales, UK. The event was also an opportunity for fans to meet the creator and for autograph signings. While at the event there was a special UK premiere screening of an upcoming Gumball episode featuring scenes in an anime art style (produced by Studio 4°C in Japan) called “The Fury”, which first premiered at the Polymanga animation festival in Montreux, Romandy, Switzerland.

Cartoon Network Africa Launches Imagination Studios

Cartoon Network Imagination Studios – Cartoon Network Europe, Middle East and Africa’s initiative to get children to be creative has launched in South Africa. The initiative allows people to learn more about how cartoons are made including the step by step process and the many aspects of animation including drawing, colouring, storyboarding, music, special effects, voiceovers, and frame-by-frame animation via the Imagination Studios minisite on the Cartoon Network Africa website. Rebecca Sugar (creator of Steven Universe) and Ben Bocquelet (creator of The Amazing World of Gumball) and many others behind Cartoon Network’s shows offer tips and advice about making drawings and creating animation.

Like other Cartoon Network EMEA feeds, Cartoon Network Africa will also be holding an Imagination Studios competition offering children, aged 6 to 12 years, the opportunity to enter their very own original, unique creations and have a chance to see their creations come to life on Cartoon Network.

Vice President Southern Europe and Africa for Turner Broadcasting System Europe, Pierre Branco made this statement about the launch of the Imagination Studios initiative in Africa.
