Last Thursday (27th September), Turner France held an upfront event featuring announcements about some upcoming new shows and new episodes coming soon to Cartoon Network France and Boomerang France, plus much more.

In late 2018/early 2019, shows on Turner France’s children’s channels will have a total of 55 new seasons, 32 new films and more than 1,000 new episodes. Cartoon Network is the number one channel for boys in France, and Boomerang is the number two channel for children aged between 4 to 10 years and 4-14 years old in France. As a whole, Turner France’s children’s channels (Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Boing and Toonami) are the second most popular group of kids channels in France and is the most popular among boys aged between 4 to 14 years old. Cartoon Network and Boomerang are in the top five kids channels in France overall and Toonami has achieved ten percent audience growth over the past year.

Also, in addition to the new movies coming soon to Turner’s kids channels, Boing France will now have two movie schedule slots per day.

Cartoon Network Studios’ Craig of the Creek will premiere on Cartoon Network France very soon.

The new limited series from Cartoon Network – Apple and Onion will premiere on Cartoon Network France on Saturday 20th October. In the French dub, Apple and Onion are voiced by the French hip-hop duo – Bigflo et Oli.

Boomerang’s and Cyber Group Studios’ upcoming animated series – Taffy will now premiere in 2019, it was originally going to premiere in late 2018. The intro to the new show has been released ahead of the show’s premiere next year.

The new show – Unikitty! will premiere on Cartoon Network France in January 2019.

New episodes of Wacky Races are coming soon to Boomerang France and new episodes of The Happos Family will premiere on Boomerang France in January 2019.

Boomerang’s Wacky Races will have a special section at Canal’s stand at this year’s (Mondial de l’Auto) Paris Motor Show, this year’s Paris Motor Show will be held between Thursday 4th and Sunday 14th October.

New episodes of the popular action anime series – Dragon Ball Super are airing this month on Toonami France.

The French dub of TBS’s Final Space will premiere on Warner TV in December, comedians Lecaplain Baptiste and William Coryn will be voice acting in the French version of the sci-fi adventure comedy series.

There will also be a special Final Space panel and first episode screening at Paris Comic Con on Saturday 27th October with Lecaplain Baptiste and William Coryn.

Today (10th July), Turner France has released its television viewing ratings for the first half of 2018 based on statistics from French audience measurement company – Médiamétrie. According to the statistics, Cartoon Network France is the most watched children’s pay-TV channel for boys aged between 4 to 14 in the country. Cartoon Network’s sister channel – Boomerang is the second most watched pay-TV children’s channel for children aged between 4 and 10 years old but also for the more widespread 4 to 14 years old demographic.

As a whole, Turner’s children’s channels (Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Boing) are the second most watched pay-TV channels in France for children aged between 4 and 10 years old but also for the more widespread 4 to 14 years old demographic, but is also number one among boys aged between 4 to 14 years old. Overall, Turner’s audience for its kids channels have grown by 4.5% over the past year and bring in 5.4 million viewers every month.

Edutainment Company Bright Little Labs Makes Deal With Turner International For Equity Investment

Today (7th June), Turner International’s Digital Ventures and Innovation division has announced they have made an equity investment in Bright Little Labs (BLL), a UK based company that specialises, creates and distributes edutainment (educational entertainment) content for kids. The extra funding from Turner in exchange for equity will help with Bright Little Labs’ international expansion as well as the creation and distribution of new educational content, this includes topics covering critical thinking, computer science and computer coding.

The equity deal is also Turner’s Digital Ventures & Innovations’s first investment into the edutainment sector. The education material is also inline with the UK’s national curriculum for coding and is supported by the British Government’s Cabinet Office. BLL uses a cartoon character called Detective Dot to teach kids about coding. The character – Detective Dot is a tech-whizz who is on a dangerous mission from the Children’s Intelligence Agency (CIA). BLL is also a recipient of a EDF Stem Pulse Award (awarded in 2017) and was named ‘Top Coding Toy for Kids’ by UK national newspaper – The Independent in 2017 and by London’s Evening Standard newspaper in 2018.

As part of the agreement, BLL will be able to make use of Turner’s animation, licensing and merchandising portfolio, which includes animated properties from Cartoon Network, and it will also be possible to form collaborations with Turner’s kids channels which include Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Boing, Toonami and Cartoonito.

Turner International’s Digital Ventures & Innovation (DV&I) group today announces an equity investment in Bright Little Labs (BLL), a UK-based early stage company which creates and distributes edutainment content for kids.

The funding will be used to fuel Bright Little Labs’ international expansion in terms of both creative development and distribution.

The investment will enhance BLL’s current offering by leveraging Turner’s expertise in the kids’ space to develop quality IP which delivers on Bright Little Labs’ vision to engage, entertain and educate kids about critical thinking, computer science and coding.

Bright Little Labs’ existing edutainment IP centres around Detective Dot from the Children’s Intelligence Agency, a hi-tech spy agency which incorporates the official UK coding curriculum and allows kids to learn in a fun and engaging way.

The agreement will also lay the foundation for further leverage across Turner’s wider animation and licensing and merchandising portfolio.

The investment means that Turner becomes Bright Little Labs’ main strategic investor and signals its commitment to developing a presence in edutainment. Christopher Sodergren VP Digital Ventures, DV&I for Turner will take a seat on Bright Little Labs’ board of directors.

The investment in BLL follows DV&I’s stake in Copa90 in February 2017. DV&I has also launched gaming service Gloud and movie streaming service FilmStruck internationally since forming just under 18 months ago to focus on D2C opportunities executed through innovation, in-house development or acquisition.
