Cartoon Network Russia and Southeastern Europe 2017 Upfront

Tatiana Kalita, General Director of Turner Broadcasting System in Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and the CIS, has announced that Cartoon Network Russia and Southeastern Europe will broadcast over 180 hours of original content this year, this includes the brand new Cartoon Network original series – Mighty Magiswords which will premiere next month. Cartoon Network will also plan to air the brand new Unikitty animated series, which is based on and featuring the infamous character of the same name from The Lego Movie. Adventure Time, The Powerpuff Girls, Ben 10, Dreamworks: Dragons, The Amazing World of Gumball, Regular Show, Nexo Knights and Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu are all listed as returning shows in 2017. Cartoon Network HD is now available for carriage with pay-tv operators in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) and Ukraine markets.

Boomerang Central Eastern Europe (broadcasts to a majority of Eastern Europe, Netherlands and Russia) will continue to air new episodes of The Tom and Jerry Show, Be Cool Scooby-Doo, Oddbods, The Happos Family, My Knight and Me and Robin Hood: Mischief in Sherwood. New upcoming animated shows from Warner Bros. Animation that will air on Boomerang include Dorothy of Oz, based on the classic movie – The Wizard of Oz and Wacky Racers, a remake of the madcap Hanna-Barbera classic. New third-party acquisitions from other animation studios include Coconut The Little Dragon and Pat The Dog.

Cartoon Network Latin America President Barry Koch To Leave In March

Latin America animation news website – ANMTV and Spanish language media news website TodoTVNews has reported that Barry Koch, the Senior Vice President of Cartoon Network Latin America will resign in March. The president of Turner International – Gerhard Zeiler announced the news. Mr Koch has worked for Turner’s Latin America division since 1999 and had a major role of developing Turner’s Latin American bouquet of kids channels (Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Tooncast), under his leadership, Cartoon Network was the most watched pay-tv children’s channel in the region for three years running. In terms of digital entertainment, Cartoon Network’s websites are among the most popular kids websites in the region.

The news follows the appointment of Whit Richardson as the new president of Turner Latin America last Monday (13/02/2017). Gretchen Colón (Executive Vice President, Advertising Sales), Alex Gonzalez (Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Digital Media) and Rick Perez (Senior Vice President and General Manager, Movies & Series) will also leave Turner. Gretchen Colón and Alex Gonzalez will leave in May and Rick Perez will leave at the end of March.

As mentioned in the updated Cartoon Network USA February 2017 Highlights blog post (which also overhangs into early March), a sneak peek of the upcoming Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs animated series will air on Cartoon Network USA on Monday 20th February at 6.30pm ET/PT (or see it first on the Cartoon Network App). The new animated series will fully premiere on Cartoon Network USA on Monday 6th March at 5.30pm ET/PT.

The new series is a prequel to the popular movie franchise (Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2), of a which a young Flint Lockwood has ambitions to become a respected scientist and inventor and his friend Sam Sparks has ambitions to become a meteorologist. As this series is a prequel, the events in the new show will take place before the crazy moment when food fell from the sky in Swallow Falls, a town that used to depend on sardines for it’s economic output. The new animated series also features many of the characters from the film including Flint’s dad, Tim; Flint’s lab assistant, Steve the monkey; Earl, the school’s busiest teacher; Manny, the head of the school’s audiovisual department; Brent, the local teenage celebrity and captain of the mascot team; and Mayor Shelbourne.

The new animated series is produced by Sony Pictures Animation in association with Teletoon (Corus Entertainment) in Canada, with DHX Media owning global television, merchandising, and non-US home entertainment distribution rights. The new show will soon air on Boomerang’s international feeds across Europe, Middle East and Africa, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific regions. Initially, 26 episodes have been produced, with each episode being 22 minutes in length.

Whit Richardson Appointed New President Of Turner Latin America

Turner Broadcasting System Latin America has appointed Whit Richardson as their new president today (13/02/2017). The announcement was made by Gerhard Zeiler, the President of Turner International. Mr Richardson has 23 years of experience working at Turner, before his new role he was Executive Vice President of Distribution for Turner Latin America. In his new role he will oversee Turner’s vast portfolio of channels in Latin America including Latin America’s most watched portfolio of kids channels – Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Tooncast and popular general entertainment channels such as TNT, TCM, TBS and WBTV.

Mr Richardson’s new role will also involve ad sales, distribution of channels and programming and product licensing and merchandising in Latin America. Mr Richardson will report to the head of Turner’s international division – Gerhard Zeiler.

Joel Whitten “Whit” Richardson III has been promoted to President, Turner Latin America. The announcement was made today by Gerhard Zeiler, President, Turner International. A 23-year veteran of the company, Richardson most recently held the position of Executive Vice President of Distribution, Turner Latin America. In his new position, he will report to Zeiler.

In his new role, Richardson has executive oversight of Turner’s regional portfolio of general entertainment, kids, sports and free-to-air brands; distribution and ad sales of those brands; the distribution of CNN’s services; and licensing and merchandising activity in Latin America.

Turner Latin America is Turner’s largest international division. Turner Latin America’s portfolio was once again the highest rated (#1) pay TV offering in Latin America in 2016* and includes an unmatched array of demographics and genres.
