Later this week (19th to 22nd April) is the Cardiff Animation Festival in Cardiff, Wales, UK. The animation festival is one of the largest in the UK and celebrates home-grown and international animation. On the first day of the festival (Thursday 19th April) some of the UK’s top childrens’ content commissioners will be speaking during the “Afternoon Tea with the Children’s Commissioners” session. Turner EMEA’s VP of Programming and Content Strategy, Kids (Cartoon Network/Boomerang/Cartoonito/Boing), Acquisitions and Co-productions International – Cecilia Persson will also be there. Other content commissioners attending the event are Cheryl Taylor (Head of Content, for CBBC), Stuart Rowson (Head of Curation and Discovery for CBBC), Lucy Murphy (Head of Kids Content at Sky UK) and Sioned Wyn Roberts (Children’s Commissioner for Welsh-language broadcaster S4C).
During the session, each content commissioner will discuss what they’re looking for in terms of child-friendly animated programming. After the session, there will be an opportunity for potential show creators to pitch and discuss their ideas in a ten-minute one-to-one session with a content commissioner, they’re also there to offer advice on how to get an animated project picked up and commissioned by a children’s channel. The session is supported by BAFTA’s (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Wales division – BAFTA Cymru.
