This Sunday (1st October), Cartoon Network will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The channel first launched in the United States on 1st October 1992 and it was the first 24-hour network that’s purely dedicated to animation. Even to this day it’s still expanding worldwide, with new animated (and animation related live action) programming recently made in several countries including the United Kingdom, France, Brazil, Germany, Spain, Denmark, India, South Korea, Australia, Philippines and Mexico, channel launches in several countries and new languages and the further expansion of digital services including live streaming and video on-demand.

Cartoon Network 25th Anniversary Mural In Rome, Italy
To celebrate Cartoon Network’s 25th Anniversary on 1st October, a special Cartoon Network mural has been painted all over Turner Italy’s headquarters located in central Rome. Street artists omino71 and Mr.Klevra took on the challenge to cover the building with some of the channel’s most famous cartoon characters throughout its twenty-five year history while also spoofing one of the city’s* most famous art pieces – Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam.
The mural features characters from Adventure Time, The Powerpuff Girls, Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Cow and Chicken, Courage The Cowardly Dog, We Bare Bears, Regular Show, Ben 10, Samurai Jack, The Amazing World of Gumball, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and many more. Staying in with the creation theme, portraits of William Hanna, Joseph Barbera and Tex Avery can be seen in God’s arm and Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry, Fred Flintstone, Bugs Bunny, Wile E. Coyote can be seen on Adam’s arm, a reference to the creative origins of the channel which also includes the history of Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. Animation. The mural can be seen at Turner Italy’s headquarters at 18-20 via dei Magazzini Generali located in the Ostiense Quarter.
* Technically it’s in the Sistine Chapel in the enclave of Vatican City which is surrounded by central Rome, from a tourist’s point-of-view and in an unofficial sense its classed as part of the city.
