Virgin Media Launches Kids TV App Features Boomerang And Cartoonito Shows

This week, British cable television provider – Virgin Media (a part of the Liberty Global group) has launched its children’s television mobile app – Virgin TV Kids. The app also features some content that air on Boomerang and Cartoonito for the new app including Fireman Sam, Bob the Builder, Scooby-Doo!, Tom and Jerry and Thomas and Friends. The app is available at no extra cost to all Virgin Media TV customers who have either the Fun or Full House TV package. The app also includes content from Nick Jr, Tiny Pop and Channel 5’s Milkshake programming block. The app was announced at this year’s Children’s Media Conference in Sheffield in July, the launch of the app follows the launch of a similar kids app by Virgin’s biggest rival – Sky.

The app features a child friendly design and offers hundreds of hours of video-on-demand TV content suitable for children aged between 3 and 7 years old. The app also features games and picture books and it’s also a safe environment for young children with no advertising or inappropriate content. The app also features individual profile functionality, a repeat show five-times looper button, download show functionality and security settings. The app can be used on up to four compatible devices in the UK and can be used with a WiFi, 3G or 4G connection, mobile data rates may apply.

While talking about the new app, Virgin Media’s chief digital entertainment officer, David Bouchier said:

“Our Virgin TV Kids app is a safe and fun space designed exclusively for pre-schoolers, Virgin TV’s youngest customers. Parents and carers can let their children explore the best children’s TV shows from all their favourite channels such as Disney, Nick Jr, Boomerang and more, as well as a wide range of books and games safe in the knowledge that kids can never be exposed to age inappropriate or harmful content. Our Kids app has not only the UK’s best selection of pre-school entertainment, but it comes with added peace of mind for parents – an environment free from ads and other commercial influences.”

Cartoon Network And Warner Bros UK Licensing Awards 2017 Nominations

Last Friday (28/07/2017), the UK Licensing Awards have released their list of nominations for this year’s awards and two of Cartoon Network’s shows have been nominated in the best property categories. Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls was nominated in the “Best Children’s or Tween Licensed Property (age group 5-12)” and Adventure Time has been nominated in the “Best Teen or Adult Licensed Property” category. The UK Licensing Awards celebrates the best of licensed merchandise, entertainment properties, marketing campaigns and product innovation during the last twelve months.

Cartoonito UK’s recently acquired show – Thomas and Friends has also been nominated in the “Best Preschool Licensed Property (age group 0-5)” category. Cartoon Network’s sister companies – Warner Bros. and HBO have also been given nominations too in different categories. HBO’s Game of Thrones is competing for “Best Teen or Adult Licensed Property” with Adventure Time. Warner Bros’ The LEGO Batman Movie has also been nominated in the “Best Film Licensed Property” category and HBO’s/Cartoonito UK’s Sesame Street has been nominated in “The Classic Licensed Property Award” category, alongside Cartoonito’s Fireman Sam.

In the product categories, The LEGO Batman Movie Range has been nominated in the “Best Licensed Toys or Games Range” category, with DC Super Hero Girls and LEGO Batman costumes being nominated in the “Best Licensed Dress-Up or Partyware Range” category. DC Comics’ Be A Superhero This Summer at Intu shopping centres has also been nominated for Best Retail Execution and Warner Bros’ advertising collaboration with Halifax Bank featuring classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters (such as Fred Flintstone, Top Cat and Scooby-Doo who are also closely associated with Cartoon Network’s Boomerang channel) has been nominated in the “Best Licensed Marketing Communications Award” category.

The winners in all categories will be revealed at the UK Licensing Awards 2017 ceremony on Tuesday 12th September, which will be held in The Great Room of The Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

This summer, Cartoon Network UK are airing new episodes of Teen Titans Go! and Nexo Knights. New episodes of Teen Titans Go! air every weekday, tune in at 9am and 6pm to find out what new silly antics Robin and the Teen Titans gang are up to whether its partying or singing ridiculous songs, when they should be responsible superheroes with the task of protecting the great metropolis of Jump City.

In new episodes of Nexo Knights, Jestro and Monstrox are up to their usual evil tricks again by bringing stone to life and the leader of the Nexo Knights – Clay has turned into stone and by the looks of things he may of switched sides, will the remaining Nexo Knights team up and save Knighton from an army of stone monsters? The battle of good and evil rages on! New episodes of Nexo Knights air from tomorrow (Monday 31st July) and airs weekdays at 3pm.

Also on Tuesday (1st August) at 12pm, Cartoonito will be premiering a new show called “Popples”, the show is based on the popular 1980’s multicoloured soft toy with the ability to roll into a ball as a way of moving around. The new series originally premiered on Netflix in the United States in 2015 and is now having a UK TV premiere on Cartoonito. Popples are creatures that love fun, full of energy and always want to help each other and the show’s main characters Lulu, Izzy, Bubbles, Sunny and Yikes are no exception. The show is animated by French studio Zagtoon, the same animation studio behind Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.

Also, from Tuesday 1st August from 8am, Cartoonito will be airing Fireman Sam and Masha and the Bear episodes in its “Mornings on Cartoonito” programming block.
