Today (14th June) was Cartoon Network’s main day at Annecy Animation Festival 2018 in Annecy, France. Cartoon Network will hosted its popular Picnic By the Lake event this lunchtime, the event was held in partnership with sister company – Warner Bros. Animation to help promote the cinema release of Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, which will be released in cinemas in the United States on Friday 27th July. The event had several Cartoon Network balloons and a 3D cardboard cut out model of a bike with a backdrop of Jump City featuring the Teen Titans – Robin, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg and Beast Boy, people can take pictures of themselves riding a bike with the Teen Titans. During the event, festival visitors enjoyed a picnic along the shore of Lake Annecy.

Even the Teen Titans themselves were greeting the festival’s visitors!

This afternoon, there was special panel organised by Cartoon Network celebrating woman in the animation industry called “Cartoon Network Celebrate Women in the World of Animation”, speaking at the event were Eva Lee Wallberg – the creator of The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe, Lauren Sassen – the creative director for Cartoon Network Studios’ We Bare Bears, Julia Pott – the creator of Cartoon Network’s newest animated series – Summer Camp Island and Patricia Hidalgo – Chief Content Officer, Turner EMEA & International Kids Strategy.

Cartoon Network’s New Animated Show Summer Camp Island To Premiere Saturday 7th July In A 48 Hour Takeover

Cartoon Network USA has announced the premiere date of its newest animated show – Summer Camp Island, the new show will premiere on Saturday 7th July at 6am (ET/PT) as part of a 48 hour takeover airing on both Cartoon Network and Boomerang. The takeover will include twenty episodes from the new show, which will air in rotation through Sunday 8th July.

The brand new show is created by British animator – Julia Pott and follows best friends Oscar and Hedgehog at an incredible, magical sleepaway camp where things aren’t quite what they seem to be. Summer Camp Island’s voice acting cast includes Justin Felbinger as Oscar, Ashley Boettcher as Hedgehog, Thomas Vaethroeder, Anna Strupinsky, Kathleen Wilhoite, and Judd Hirsch. In addition to the 48-hour event, Cartoon Network USA is also launching a Summer Camp Island AR (Augmented Reality) app. Use the Camp Guide in the app to explore Summer Camp Island, play with campers or even make your surroundings come to life and talk.

Oscar finds a secret page in the camp guidebook that shows how to earn badges and, more importantly, redeem them for prizes! It’s time for a fun activity montage, including a 2-hour nap, making friends with the moon, and swimming with sharks!

Oscar and Hedgehog are searching for yetis, after learning about them in the camp’s winter guide. The campers take a visit to yeti meadow to see real-live yetis in action!

Oscar and his friends are challenged to a magical game of softball by Susie and the witch camp counselors.

Oscar and Hedgehog plan Susie a birthday party which entails an awesome boy band and lassoing unicorns, you know…standard party stuff!

Oscar and Hedgehog wake up in space! They’re being transported to the aliens’ adorable home planet…but the reason why might be more sinister than they thought.

Equal gender rights is currently a main subject within the media industry, whether it’s against the discrimination of woman or equal pay. Cartoon Network is an all-inclusive employer and does not discriminate on gender, sexual orientation, race or disability, they’re only interested if job candidates and employees have the skills for the job and if they’re a good fit for the company. To help tackle this ongoing issue, Cartoon Network is making an effort for the next generation of animation talent to break though, especially woman who aspire to work in the animation industry. Some of the most influential people working at the channel are in fact female, including the President of Cartoon Network – Christina Miller and also Rebecca Sugar – the creator of Steven Universe, who is also Cartoon Network’s first ever female solo show creator.

During the Annecy Animation Festival and side event MIFA (French: Marché international du film d’animation, English: International Animation Film Market) which is running throughout this week (Monday 11th to Saturday 16th June) The network has promised to fund and support a female animation student at The Animation Workshop animation school in Denmark. The co-creator of Cartoon Network’s The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe” – Eva Lee Wallberg attended the same school.
