Cartoon Network India And Amazon Prime Video Announces VOD Content Distribution Deal

Turner International India and Amazon Prime Video in India have signed a content distribution deal to add a selection of classic Cartoon Network shows onto the subscription video-on-demand service. Cartoon Network shows that will be added to the service include, Ben 10 (Original series), Ben 10: Alien Force, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, Ben 10 Omniverse, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Johnny Bravo, The Powerpuff Girls (Original series), Dexter’s Laboratory, and two shows specifically produced for Indian audiences – Kumbh Karan and Roll No. 21. The shows will be added to the Kids and Family TV section of Amazon Prime Video’s service.

In a joint statement by Amazon India and Cartoon Network India, both said:

“Kids today are consuming and engaging with their favourite content across diverse screens such as computers and mobile screens. This is increasing with the emergence of new OTT platforms and the rise in use of apps for games as an entertainment and learning activity.”

In addition to the classic cartoon distribution deal with Amazon Prime Video and the recent revamp of Toonami India as a classic animation channel, Cartoon Network Enterprises in India has released a retro collection which includes a series of branded merchandise such as T-shirts, shoes, mugs, bags, badges, posters, flip-flops, mobile covers and much more. The new merchandise range features character designs from The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo and Dexter’s Laboratory.

In regards to new merchandise range, Anand Singh, the Senior Director of Cartoon Network Enterprises India made this statement:

Cartoon Network And Warner Bros UK Licensing Awards 2017 Nominations

Last Friday (28/07/2017), the UK Licensing Awards have released their list of nominations for this year’s awards and two of Cartoon Network’s shows have been nominated in the best property categories. Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls was nominated in the “Best Children’s or Tween Licensed Property (age group 5-12)” and Adventure Time has been nominated in the “Best Teen or Adult Licensed Property” category. The UK Licensing Awards celebrates the best of licensed merchandise, entertainment properties, marketing campaigns and product innovation during the last twelve months.

Cartoonito UK’s recently acquired show – Thomas and Friends has also been nominated in the “Best Preschool Licensed Property (age group 0-5)” category. Cartoon Network’s sister companies – Warner Bros. and HBO have also been given nominations too in different categories. HBO’s Game of Thrones is competing for “Best Teen or Adult Licensed Property” with Adventure Time. Warner Bros’ The LEGO Batman Movie has also been nominated in the “Best Film Licensed Property” category and HBO’s/Cartoonito UK’s Sesame Street has been nominated in “The Classic Licensed Property Award” category, alongside Cartoonito’s Fireman Sam.

In the product categories, The LEGO Batman Movie Range has been nominated in the “Best Licensed Toys or Games Range” category, with DC Super Hero Girls and LEGO Batman costumes being nominated in the “Best Licensed Dress-Up or Partyware Range” category. DC Comics’ Be A Superhero This Summer at Intu shopping centres has also been nominated for Best Retail Execution and Warner Bros’ advertising collaboration with Halifax Bank featuring classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters (such as Fred Flintstone, Top Cat and Scooby-Doo who are also closely associated with Cartoon Network’s Boomerang channel) has been nominated in the “Best Licensed Marketing Communications Award” category.

The winners in all categories will be revealed at the UK Licensing Awards 2017 ceremony on Tuesday 12th September, which will be held in The Great Room of The Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Cartoon Network Enterprises has teamed up with American music, video and pop-culture merchandise retailer FYE (For Your Entertainment) to sell a range of Rick and Morty themed confectionery and snack food products, including the breakfast cereal – Strawberry Smiggles, which appeared in the episode “Rixty Minutes”. The cereal appears in an advertisement in the episode, the product is a parody of Lucky Charms and Trix cereals, and the mascot of Strawberry Smiggles – Tophat Jones is a leprechaun with bunny ears, a reference to the mascots of both cereals. In the advert, Tophat’s refuses to share his cereal, his selfishness leads him to a bloody, gruesome (and disturbingly funny) demise.

The cereal box contains 226g (8oz) of “artifically flavoured” crunchy strawberry marshmallow pieces and will be available for sale from 4th September. FYE will be present at San Diego Comic Con this week (20th to 23rd July) and will be taking pre-orders for the breakfast cereal. The cereal will cost $12.99 ($11.69 for FYE Members). FYE will also release character themed chocolate bars and gummy candy.
