Jorel’s Brother Gets A Positive Response From MIPCOM Last Week (15th to 18th October)

Last week at MIPCOM, Copa Studio’s and Cartoon Network Latin America’s Jorel’s Brother (Brazilian Portuguese title: Irmão do Jorel) was met with positive responses from countries in Asia, Europe and Oceania regarding the show’s planned internationalisation, there was also interest for Copa Studio’s Trunk Train (Brazilian Portuguese title: Tromba Trem) and Haunted Tales for Wicked Kids (Brazilian Portuguese title: Historietas Assombradas para Crianças Malcriadas), both shows have aired on Cartoon Network Latin America and Cartoon Network Brazil.

Eight New Episodes of Monica’s Gang To Be Screened at Cinemark Cinemas In Brazil

On 2nd to 4th November, 17 Cinemark cinemas will be showing eight never before seen of the Monica’s Gang (Brazilian Portuguese title: Turma da Mônica) animated series from season two, plus some additional special content at 12.50pm every day. Monica’s Gang is a popular Brazilian comic book franchise created by Mauricio de Sousa, the animated television adaptation of the same name which will be shown in cinemas airs on Cartoon Network Latin America and Cartoon Network Brazil.

Turner Asia-Pacific Renews Horrid Henry Seasons One To Four Broadcasting Rights

Zodiak Kids (owned by Banijay Group) has signed a broadcasting rights renewal deal with Turner Broadcasting System Asia-Pacific for seasons one to four of Novel Entertainment’s Horrid Henry, the show has aired on Cartoon Network Australia and New Zealand, Cartoon Network India, Cartoon Network Southeast Asia and Cartoon Network Taiwan. News of the the deal was announced during MIPCOM 2018 this week (15th to 18th October) in Cannes, France.

The Horrid Henry animated series is based on the children’s book series of the same name written by Francesca Simon, the titular character – Henry is a young boy with a rebellious personality, he is often naughty and doesn’t respect authority figures, if he doesn’t get his own way he gets his revenge by breaking the rules or by pranking.

Zodiak Kids has also signed up broadcasting deals for Horrid Henry with MBC (Middle East), Alati International (Russia), and Atlantic Digital Networks (Canada). Including the renewal deal with Turner Asia-Pacific, Zodiak has also renewed existing deals with Mediacorp (Singapore), POP TV (Slovenia), E-Vision (Middle East), Asiana (Korea), and Netflix (the US, Canada, France, Australia and New Zealand).

Season five of Horrid Henry is currently in production and will consist of 42 episodes, each with a run-time of 11 minutes, in the UK, the new season will air on Nicktoons in 2019. Zodiak Kids has already picked up the distribution rights for season five, however Turner Asia-Pacific hasn’t made a deal with Zodiak yet for season five.

Julia Rowlands, vice president of sales, acquisitions and co-productions at Zodiak Kids made this statement regarding the new Horrid Henry broadcasting deals: “Horrid Henry is an incredibly important brand for Zodiak Kids and it is great to be further building on the existing catalogue with a new series at MIPCOM. The continued success of Horrid Henry in the UK and internationally is proof of the quality and longevity of the brand.”

Turner’s Boomerang International And Cyber Group Studios’ Animated Co-Production Taffy Premieres Today At MIPCOM

Today (15th October), Turner’s Boomerang International and French animation studio – Cyber Group Studios (made in association with France Télévisions) will premiere their first animated co-production – “Taffy” at the MIPCOM media convention in Cannes, France.

The show’s world premiere will be held during a session at MIPCOM called “The Making of a Modern Classic” (Monday 15th October, 12.30pm at the Majestic). During the presentation, Pierre Sissmann and Mike de Seve (Co-Creators of Taffy), Ahmed Guerrouache (Director) and representatives from the show’s main original broadcast partners, Patricia Hidalgo (Chief Content Officer, Turner EMEA and International Kids Strategy) and Tiphaine de Raguenel (Executive Director of France 4 / Director of Children & Youth Activities, France Télévisions) will be introducing the new animated series and will be sharing their motivation behind the Hanna-Barbera inspired show.

In Taffy, a billionaire old lady named Mrs Muchmore takes in a raccoon imposter posing as a cat named Taffy, this leads to slapstick mayhem for Mrs. Muchmore’s pet dog – Bentley. In each episode, Bentley tries to expose Taffy for what he is, but Taffy outsmarts him on his every move and causes nothing but chaos and disaster in the process. As a result of the mess, poor Bentley always gets the blame. Both Taffy and Bentley live a luxurious lifestyle in a large mansion, they travel around the world and meet important people – including the President, but no matter where they go and who they meet will never stop their endless battle of complete mayhem.

Cyber Group Studios has joined forces with Turner to create Taffy, a brand-new animated series for Turner’s second flagship kids’ channel Boomerang across international markets. The series will also be broadcasted on France Televisions Networks.

Inspired by the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons, Taffy will enjoy a special World Premiere presentation at MIPCOM in a session titled – “The Making of a Modern Classic” (Monday 15th October at the Majestic). Each installment sees Bentley try to reveal “Taffy” for the vermin he is – while super-clever Taffy handily frames the dog for every one of his exploits, pillagings and disastrous messes.
