Sundance Feniger Appointed As General Manager Of Boomerang USA’s Streaming Service

Yesterday (20/04/2017), Turner USA appointed Sundance Feniger as vice president and general manager of Boomerang USA’s brand new subscription video on-demand service which provides a wide selection of classic and modern animation to be enjoyed by kids, families and cartoon fanatics of all ages. In the new role, Mr Feniger will run and oversee the operations of the Boomerang streaming service, this includes content management, marketing, viewing data analysis and the development and introduction of new features, he will also work with Warner Bros.’s DreamFever, the company that provided the technology for the streaming service.

The Boomerang streaming service launched on 11th April 2017 and through its joint ownership with Turner and Warner Bros., the service has access to an archive of over 5,000 animated titles, including timeless favourites such as Scooby-Doo and Tom and Jerry and also streaming service exclusives such as Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz and the brand new Wacky Racers reboot.

Mr Feniger previously worked at Nickelodeon as senior director of product strategy and development and managed Viacom’s first subscription video on-demand service – Noggin, he also held multiple management roles in Nickelodeon’s games division.

Time Warner’s Turner and Warner Bros. announced today that Sundance Feniger has been named vice president and general manager of Boomerang, the newly launched premium video subscription service that offers the best in timeless and original animation to kids, families and cartoon lovers of all ages. The new Boomerang service, a joint venture from Turner and Warner Bros. Digital Networks Group, is another step for Turner and Warner Bros. direct to consumer business and the first product focused on family, kids and animation.

In this newly created role, Feniger leads the overall Boomerang streaming business across all functions and partners with DramaFever on technology. He will report jointly to both companies.

“Sundance has a passion for kids content and animation. He also has the technical and data background to understand the underlying business,” said Turner and Warner Bros. “His knowledge and experience in developing great product will help Boomerang win in this competitive space.”

Boomerang premium subscription service launched April 11, 2017 with the massive Hanna-Barbera, Looney Tunes and MGM animation library of more than 5,000 titles, timeless franchises including Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny, The Jetsons, and The Flintstones, plus Boomerang original exclusives such as Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz and Wacky Races.

Prior to joining Boomerang, Feniger was senior director of product strategy and development at Nickelodeon where he developed the strategy and managed premium product for Viacom’s first mobile subscription video-on-demand service, NOGGIN. He also held multiple leadership positions with the Nickelodeon Games Group, leading monetization operations, premium product management and partnerships for all virtual world and MMO games. Feniger earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Cornell University.

Today (01/03/2017), Turner USA has announced that Valerie Meraz has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Content Acquisitions & Strategy. In her new role, she will negotiate broadcasting rights deals with third-party movie, animation and live-action television studios and distributors (also includes Turner’s sister company – Warner Bros.) for Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Adult Swim (as well as TBS, TNT, truTV, TCM and the classic movie streaming service, FilmStruck).

Valerie Meraz will be based at Turner’s worldwide headquarters in Atlanta and will report to Michael Quigley, Executive Vice President of Commercial Operations, Content Strategy & Monetization for Turner’s TBS & TNT.

Meraz joined Turner in 2012 as Vice President of Program Acquisitions and played an important role in acquiring the broadcasting rights to movie blockbusters such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and all of the upcoming DC Comics films; The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Dr. Strange and other recent hits from Marvel; and the entire Hunger Games and Divergent franchises. In summer 2016, she helped to acquire the exclusive basic cable broadcasting rights for the entire Star Wars franchise, from the six classic films to the newest films in the franchise. For Adult Swim, she negotiated long-term deals for Fox Television’s Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers for Adult Swim.

Valerie Meraz has been promoted to senior vice president of content acquisitions & strategy for Turner’s entertainment networks. In this capacity, she negotiates deals for movies and off-network television series on behalf of TBS, TNT, truTV, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and FilmStruck. The content she and her team acquire help support original programming for all of those brands, including the programming and brand evolutions at TNT & TBS. Meraz is based in Atlanta and reports to Michael Quigley, executive vice president of commercial operations, content strategy & monetization for Turner’s TBS & TNT.

Meraz joined Turner after serving as vice president of content acquisitions for Showtime Networks, Inc., where she oversaw the evaluation and acquisition of content for Showtime, The Movie Channel, and Flix (including on-demand and digital platforms). While at Showtime, Meraz negotiated deals for the acquisition of feature films, documentaries, short films, acquired series and stand-up comedy specials.

Prior to joining Showtime, Meraz worked in feature film development for Disney’s Buena Vista Motion Pictures Group. She began her career at 20th Century Fox in the exhibitor services group as a sales trainee and was soon promoted to a position in international theatrical promotions, where she helped develop media and retail promotions for such films as Titanic, The Full Monty and William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet.

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Meraz holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of California, Los Angeles and a master’s degree in motion picture producing from the Peter Stark Producing Program at the University of Southern California. She recently won a Luminary Award from the National Association of Multi-Ethnicities in Communications (NAMIC) and the Power BrokHer Award from Women in Film and Television of Atlanta.

Turner Broadcasting System Latin America has appointed Whit Richardson as their new president today (13/02/2017). The announcement was made by Gerhard Zeiler, the President of Turner International. Mr Richardson has 23 years of experience working at Turner, before his new role he was Executive Vice President of Distribution for Turner Latin America. In his new role he will oversee Turner’s vast portfolio of channels in Latin America including Latin America’s most watched portfolio of kids channels – Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Tooncast and popular general entertainment channels such as TNT, TCM, TBS and WBTV.

Mr Richardson’s new role will also involve ad sales, distribution of channels and programming and product licensing and merchandising in Latin America. Mr Richardson will report to the head of Turner’s international division – Gerhard Zeiler.

Joel Whitten “Whit” Richardson III has been promoted to President, Turner Latin America. The announcement was made today by Gerhard Zeiler, President, Turner International. A 23-year veteran of the company, Richardson most recently held the position of Executive Vice President of Distribution, Turner Latin America. In his new position, he will report to Zeiler.

In his new role, Richardson has executive oversight of Turner’s regional portfolio of general entertainment, kids, sports and free-to-air brands; distribution and ad sales of those brands; the distribution of CNN’s services; and licensing and merchandising activity in Latin America.

Turner Latin America is Turner’s largest international division. Turner Latin America’s portfolio was once again the highest rated (#1) pay TV offering in Latin America in 2016* and includes an unmatched array of demographics and genres.
