Guest Stars And Cultural References In Recent Episodes Of Cartoon Network Shows

Over the summer, a lot of new episodes have premiered on Cartoon Network USA and it has been hard keeping up, especially as there are quite a few moments in recent episodes that are definitely worth a mention. Before Clarence ended in June, Cartoon Network aired an episode called “Video Store”, in the episode Clarence, Sumo and Jeff visit the video store to rent a movie, at the store they meet Brendon Small, the main character from Adult Swim’s (also aired on Cartoon Network UK) animated series – Home Movies, who is based on and voiced by the show’s creator of the same name. Brendon was an aspiring movie director as a child, which was the premise of the Home Movies animated series, now he’s much older and working at the video store in Clarence’s hometown of Aberdale.

Elijah Wood, who also voiced Wirt in Cartoon Network’s Over The Garden Wall has returned to the recording studio to voice a new character in Cartoon Network’s latest show – Summer Camp Island. In the show, Elijah voices Saxophone the Yeti, who made his debut in the episode “Saxophone Come Home”, in the episode, Oscar befriends Saxophone, a teenage yeti who decides to stay at Oscar’s and Hedgehog’s camp home for a while.

In one of the new episodes of The Amazing World of Gumball – “The Spinoffs” which will premiere on Cartoon Network USA tomorrow (16th July), there’s a special animated action sequence parodying the intro to the popular Japanese anime series – Cowboy Bebop called “Barcode Cowboy”, the sequence features the hardest worker in Elmore – Larry Needlemayer doing what he does best, scanning items at the checkout and delivering pizzas, but in an overly dramatic and over-the-top way. Cowboy Bebop has aired on Adult Swim numerous times since 2001, and has aired on several occasions as part of Adult Swim’s dedicated anime block – Toonami since 2012.

Cartoon Network USA’s 12 Things You Need To Know About Infinity Train

Cartoon Network USA has uploaded an introductory video to Infinity Train with twelve facts about the new show. The brand new animated mystery series will premiere in 2019. The show’s creator – Owen Dennis introduces himself at the start of the video and the twelve facts are as follows:

1. The first episode takes place in November as Autumn is the season of change, the show’s protagonist – Tulip is also experiencing changes and unknowns but is confident that she can solve the mystery of the train.

2. The idea of trains came from Owen’s experiences while traveling and also his childhood.

3. Tulip’s story arc and all of the train carts has already been planned out (including cross-eyed ducks, wizard gnomes and pinball themed carriages).

4. Corginia (The corgi dog kingdom themed carriage as seen in the pilot) was inspired by Owen’s pet corgi he had growing up.

5. The first number on Tulip’s hand is 115.

6. Tulip first meets One-One as a snowman head.

7. Who has a number is more important than what the number means.

8. If Tulip was a real person, she would take programming classes, Owen met up with female engineers from Google and thought Tulip would study computer programming as she’s an analytical person.

9. One-One’s design was inspired by Star Wars and other sci-fi robots.

10. The frog on Tulip’s pencil is the same one from Over The Garden Wall.

11. Tulip’s design has changed since the pilot.

12. Both Tulip and The Steward are voiced by the same actress, Ashley Johnson.

At the end of the video, Owen says a secret message, can you work out what it means? (Hint: It’s the name of the U.S. state where Owen grew up and where he studied animation).

Over The Garden Wall: Distillatoria Graphic Novel To Be Released November 2018

Cartoon Network’s critically acclaimed and Creative Arts Emmy Award winning miniseries – Over The Garden Wall will be returning in the form of another graphic novel this November entitled “Over The Garden Wall: Distillatoria”. The new graphic novel will be written by the Eisner Award-winning writer – Jonathan Case and will feature art from the Eisner Award-winning artist – Jim Campbell. After premiering on Cartoon Network USA in 2014, Boom Comics’ children’s imprint – kaboom! released a 20-issue comic based on the series further detailing Wirt’s and Greg’s adventures in the Unknown, the new graphic novel is the latest story from the Over the Garden Wall universe and will also be published by BOOM! Comics.

In the new graphic novel – Over The Garden Wall: Distillatoria, Greg and Wirt suddenly return home after exploring the Unknown, but they’ve accidentally brought Beatrice back home with them, both of them must help Beatrice return home before anyone finds out that she can talk. However everything is not as it seems and there’s something happening in the shadows.

While talking about the plot of the new graphic novel, Jonathan Case said:

“As a borderline-scary fan of Over the Garden Wall, I’m excited to find myself at the helm of a new adventure for Wirt, Greg, and Beatrice. Really, really excited, you guys. With Distillatoria, we’ll revisit some familiar and beloved bits: the Unknown, the Wirt-poems, the rock facts…but we’ll also explore new and (I hope) surprising territory. I dearly hope this new book is a good time for all my fellow old souls and romantic weirdos. And of course, all the lovers of Greg.”

Jim Campbell also talked about the artwork in the new graphic novel, he said:

“At this point drawing Over the Garden Wall feels like home to me. I love this world. I’m really excited about exploring a lot of the new, weird, and creepy imagery Jonathan has conjured up for this story. But it’s also got some of my favorite settings and characters from the show we haven’t seen in the comics yet. This is going to be a good one.”

Whitney Leopard, Editor, BOOM! Studios also added:

“Over The Garden Wall: Distillatoria is a fun filled adventure with Wirt and Greg having to deal with some strange twists and turns as they find themselves suddenly home after being trapped in the Unknown. Jonathan and Jim have made an insanely talented team and this is definitely going to be a story that you don’t want to miss.”
