Adult Swim’s Rick And Morty And Robot Chicken Win Creative Arts Emmy 2018 Awards

Last night (8th September) was the first night of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards 2018 ceremony at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, at this year’s awards, Cartoon Network’s young adult entertainment brand – Adult Swim walked away with two awards, with the popular animated series – Rick and Morty winning the “Outstanding Animated Program” award for the episode – Pickle Rick and the stop-motion animated comedy – Robot Chicken winning the award for “Outstanding Short Form Animated Program” for last year’s Christmas special – “Freshly Baked: The Robot Chicken Santa Claus Pot Cookie Freakout Special: Special Edition”.

In the “Outstanding Animated Program” category – Rick and Morty beat Disney XD’s Big Hero 6: The Series special episode – Baymax Returns, FOX’s Bob’s Burgers, FOX’s The Simpsons and Comedy Central’s South Park. Meanwhile in the “Outstanding Short Form Animated Program” category, Robot Chicken beaten Cartoon Network’s daytime family-friendly shows such as Adventure Time, Steven Universe, We Bare Bears and Teen Titans Go!.

Congratulations to Robot Chicken show creators – Seth Green and Matthew Senreich and also the production teams at Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and Williams Street/Adult Swim. Also, congratulations to Rick and Morty creators – Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon and to their production teams at Rick and Morty, LLC and also Williams Street/Adult Swim. At present, the only outstanding category that has received an Adult Swim nomination is “Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media Within A Scripted Program” for the Rick and Morty themed virtual reality game – Virtual Rick-ality, the winner of this category will be announced tonight (9th September).

Cartoon Network Creative Arts Emmys 2018 Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation Winners

On Tuesday (28th August), The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) released their juried winners list for the “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation” category, two of the six awards were awarded to production staff members from two of Cartoon Network’s shows. Lindsay Small-Butera won an award for her character animation work on the Adventure Time episode – Ketchup and Patrick Bryson won an award for his background painting work in the Steven Universe – Jungle Moon, both episodes are exceptional in terms of art and design.

Congratulations to Lindsay and Patrick for their amazing artwork! The juried awards (along with the awards for the other categories) will be presented at the 2018 Creative Arts Awards ceremonies at the at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday 8th September and Sunday 9th September.

In addition to Cartoon Network’s awards in the “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation” category, sister brand in the WarnerMedia group – HBO (Home Box Office) has also won an award for “The Number On Great-Grandpa’s Arm”, the short animated documentary’s production designer – Jeff Scher has been given the award. The Number On Great-Grandpa’s Arm is intended to be a gentle introduction to the Holocaust that’s suitable for children, featuring a conversation between a young boy and his 90-year-old great-grandfather who survived one of the most horrific events of the 20th Century.

In addition to these individual achievement awards, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim have completely dominated the “Outstanding Short Form Animated Program” category with nominations for Cartoon Network Studios’ Adventure Time, Steven Universe and We Bare Bears, Warner Bros. Animation’s Teen Titans Go! (produced for Cartoon Network) and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios’ Robot Chicken (produced for Adult Swim). This means its 100% certain that the award will go to a show that’s produced for Cartoon Network or its adult programming block – Adult Swim.

Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty has been nominated in the “Outstanding Animated Program Category” and also in the “Outstanding Creative Achievement In Interactive Media Within A Scripted
Program” category.

Pixelatl has announced more special guests that will be attending their animation, video games and comics festival next month, this year’s Pixelatl festival will be held between Tuesday 4th and Saturday 8th September, also a panel for Cartoon Network Latin America’s popular short-form series – Villainous, new short-form series – Viking Tales and a keynote lecture about show-writing on Cartoon Network Studios’ Steven Universe.

The Villainous panel is called “Villainous: Mexican Talent Without Limits” (Spanish Title: “Villanos: Sin límites”) and will be held on Saturday 8th September at 1.30pm. During the panel, the show’s creator – Alan Ituriel will be showing unpublished material including never seen before scenes, a brand new villain orientation video, and also a preview of the pilot for the series.

For the Steven Universe show-writing lecture – “Writing Steven’s Universe” (Spanish Title: “Escribiendo el universo de Steven”), Crewniverse members – Kat Morris (Supervising Director, screenwriter and storyboard artist) and Hilary Florido (Storyboard artist) will show and explain the show’s character development, all the way from the first thumbnails that were produced and also the storyboarding and directing process during the production of a episode. Ivanobich Verduzco, the creator of Cartoon Network Latin America’s brand new animated short-form series – Viking Tales (Spanish title: Vikingos) will also be speaking at the festival on Thursday 6th September at 4pm. Mighty Animation, the company that produces the series and Ivanobich Verduzco were the winners of Pixelatl’s Ideatoon competition in 2016. During the session, Ivanobich will talk about the future of the series and what’s next for Reidar and his friends.

Cartoon Network Latin America and Mexican animation festival Pixelatl have teamed up once again for a animation pitching contest – Girl Power: Pitch Me The Future. The pitching competition will be an opportunity for female animators and creators to pitch their show ideas to Cartoon Network, however potential projects must fit into Cartoon Network’s editorial values, must be a original idea and different to anything else currently on the channel and must have a multiplatform approach, this may include short-form content or offer an interactive experience. Today, this year’s pitching competition finalists will be announced on Pixelatl’s social media accounts. The competition’s finalists will have the chance to pitch their ideas in-front of Cartoon Network executives at the festival.

Adventure Time director (53 episodes) and creator of Cartoon Network’s Welcome To My Life animated short – Elizabeth Ito will also be at the festival.
