Warner Bros. Pictures Announces Movie Release Dates For Sesame Street And Tom And Jerry Movies

Warner Bros. has announced the theatrical release dates for the new Sesame Street and Tom and Jerry movies.

The Sesame Street movie, which is yet to be titled, is a live-action musical and is scheduled to be released in the United States on 15th January 2021, and the new Tom and Jerry movie, which is a live-action and animation hybrid and is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on 16th April 2021.

The co-creator of the sketch comedy series Portlandia – Jonathan Krisel is directing the new Sesame Street movie which is based on the long-running children’s TV show (currently airing on WarnerMedia’s HBO in the United States) created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett that features muppet characters created by Jim Henson including Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Bert and Ernie and many others.

Mike Rosolio wrote the first draft of the Sesame Street movie screenplay, with Chris Galletta writing a second draft. Shawn Levy is producing the Sesame Street movie with Michael Aguilar. Shawn Levy has been developing the movie since 2012 when 20th Century Fox held the rights. Jesse Ehrman is overseeing the project for Warner Bros. Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organisation the produces the TV show, will be involved with the development of the project.

For the new Tom and Jerry movie, Tim Story (Ride Along, Shaft) has already been announced as director. The movie will be produced by Warner Bros
feature animation division – Warner Animation Group. The movie will be based on the classic MGM animated shorts from the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s.

Cartoon Network Studios’ latest animated show – Craig Of The Creek has been awarded a Common Sense Seal from family-friendly content review website – Common Sense Media. Common Sense Media analyses television shows, video games, books, mobile apps, websites and movies to make sure they’re suitable for younger audiences, both parents and children can contribute feedback by posting reviews on the website. Common Sense Media also considers whether the show (or any form of media marketed towards children) has a positive message for children and whether the content has positive role models or/and educational content.

Craig of the Creek has been chosen for the Common Sense Seal because of the diversity of its characters and inclusion of minorities, the show has been recommended for children aged six and above. HBO’s Sesame Street has also been awarded a Common Sense Seal for the special episode – The Magical Wand Chase because of its educational value, positive messages and for the diversity of its characters, the special has been recommended for children aged four and above.

The Tom And Jerry Show Wins Daytime Creative Arts Emmy For Outstanding Music Direction And Composition

On Sunday 29th April, the 2018 Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards were held in Pasadena, California and Warner Bros. Animation’s and Cartoon Network’s/Boomerang’s The Tom and Jerry Show won an Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction and Composition. Show composer – Vivek Maddala was awarded the trophy at the awards ceremony. The Tom and Jerry Show is a modern remake of the classic slapstick comedy animated series created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, which follows two “frenemies” – a cat named Tom and a mouse named Jerry, Tom is determined to catch Jerry by any means, but Jerry always outsmarts him.

HBO’s Sesame Street also won a total of seven awards including: Outstanding Preschool Children’s Series; Outstanding Writing in a Children’s, Preschool Children’s, Family Viewing; Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design; Outstanding Technical Team; Outstanding Multiple Camera Editing; Outstanding Sound Editing – Live Action and Outstanding Original Song for “A Song About Songs”.
