Cartoon Network And Warner Bros UK Licensing Awards 2017 Nominations

Last Friday (28/07/2017), the UK Licensing Awards have released their list of nominations for this year’s awards and two of Cartoon Network’s shows have been nominated in the best property categories. Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls was nominated in the “Best Children’s or Tween Licensed Property (age group 5-12)” and Adventure Time has been nominated in the “Best Teen or Adult Licensed Property” category. The UK Licensing Awards celebrates the best of licensed merchandise, entertainment properties, marketing campaigns and product innovation during the last twelve months.

Cartoonito UK’s recently acquired show – Thomas and Friends has also been nominated in the “Best Preschool Licensed Property (age group 0-5)” category. Cartoon Network’s sister companies – Warner Bros. and HBO have also been given nominations too in different categories. HBO’s Game of Thrones is competing for “Best Teen or Adult Licensed Property” with Adventure Time. Warner Bros’ The LEGO Batman Movie has also been nominated in the “Best Film Licensed Property” category and HBO’s/Cartoonito UK’s Sesame Street has been nominated in “The Classic Licensed Property Award” category, alongside Cartoonito’s Fireman Sam.

In the product categories, The LEGO Batman Movie Range has been nominated in the “Best Licensed Toys or Games Range” category, with DC Super Hero Girls and LEGO Batman costumes being nominated in the “Best Licensed Dress-Up or Partyware Range” category. DC Comics’ Be A Superhero This Summer at Intu shopping centres has also been nominated for Best Retail Execution and Warner Bros’ advertising collaboration with Halifax Bank featuring classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters (such as Fred Flintstone, Top Cat and Scooby-Doo who are also closely associated with Cartoon Network’s Boomerang channel) has been nominated in the “Best Licensed Marketing Communications Award” category.

The winners in all categories will be revealed at the UK Licensing Awards 2017 ceremony on Tuesday 12th September, which will be held in The Great Room of The Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Sesame Street Introduces New Muppet In A Special Episode Launching Today On Cartoonito UK

Today (10/04/2017) in a joint global premiere at 3.30pm, Cartoonito will air a special episode of Sesame Street, introducing a new character named Julia. Sesame Street is known to help kids everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder and the show educates kids about diversity, inclusion and people’s differences.

The new character – Julia has a disability called Autism, in the episode “Meet Julia”, Alan helps Big Bird understand that sometimes people with autism do things that might seem confusing, but Julia also does some things that he might want to try, like the fun new game “Boing Boing Tag”. Despite Julia’s differences, she’s welcomed to join in and play and sing while everyone celebrates how special and amazing they are.

Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street, is expanding their commitment to autistic children and their families by introducing Julia, a Muppet with autism, to the broadcast. Sesame Street’s special episode, “Meet Julia”, will air today in a landmark joint premiere across the globe. Viewers in the UK can catch “Meet Julia” at 3:30pm today on Cartoonito.

In “Meet Julia”, Big Bird is playing with Elmo and Abby’s new friend, Julia, when he notices that she does things a little differently. Alan helps Big Bird understand that sometimes people with autism do things that might seem confusing, but Julia also does some things that he might want to try, like the fun new game “Boing Boing Tag”. Big Bird, Julia and the Sesame friends all then come together to play and sing, celebrating how everyone is special and amazing.

Welcoming Julia to the Street signals Sesame Workshop’s strong, continued commitment to the autism community and further supports a rich new phase of their autism initiative, Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children. Among the many creators and contributors behind the initiative, Stacey Gordon, who performs the role of Julia, and Christine Ferraro, the writer of the “Meet Julia” episode, both have close family relationships that helped them bring this character to life in a compelling, meaningful way.
