More Info About Cartoon Network Events And Guests At Pixelatl Festival 2018: Villainous Panel And Pilot, Steven Universe Keynote, Viking Tales Talk

Pixelatl has announced more special guests that will be attending their animation, video games and comics festival next month, this year’s Pixelatl festival will be held between Tuesday 4th and Saturday 8th September, also a panel for Cartoon Network Latin America’s popular short-form series – Villainous, new short-form series – Viking Tales and a keynote lecture about show-writing on Cartoon Network Studios’ Steven Universe.

The Villainous panel is called “Villainous: Mexican Talent Without Limits” (Spanish Title: “Villanos: Sin límites”) and will be held on Saturday 8th September at 1.30pm. During the panel, the show’s creator – Alan Ituriel will be showing unpublished material including never seen before scenes, a brand new villain orientation video, and also a preview of the pilot for the series.

For the Steven Universe show-writing lecture – “Writing Steven’s Universe” (Spanish Title: “Escribiendo el universo de Steven”), Crewniverse members – Kat Morris (Supervising Director, screenwriter and storyboard artist) and Hilary Florido (Storyboard artist) will show and explain the show’s character development, all the way from the first thumbnails that were produced and also the storyboarding and directing process during the production of a episode. The Steven Universe lecture will be held on Thursday 6th September at 1.30pm.

Ivanobich Verduzco, the creator of Cartoon Network Latin America’s brand new animated short-form series – Viking Tales (Spanish title: Vikingos) will also be speaking at the festival on Thursday 6th September at 4pm. Mighty Animation, the company that produces the series and Ivanobich Verduzco were the winners of Pixelatl’s Ideatoon competition in 2016. During the session, Ivanobich will talk about the future of the series and what’s next for Reidar and his friends.

The pitching competition will be an opportunity for female animators and creators to pitch their show ideas to Cartoon Network, however potential projects must fit into Cartoon Network’s editorial values, must be a original idea and different to anything else currently on the channel and must have a multiplatform approach, this may include short-form content or offer an interactive experience. Today, this year’s pitching competition finalists will be announced on Pixelatl’s social media accounts. The competition’s finalists will have the chance to pitch their ideas in-front of Cartoon Network executives at the festival.

Adventure Time director (53 episodes) and creator of Cartoon Network’s Welcome To My Life animated short – Elizabeth Ito will also be at the festival.

Also attending the festival is Jayro Giron, Manager of Creative Affairs at Warner Bros. Animation, he has direct involvement of developing new original shows based on new ideas and based on existing successful properties from the Warner Bros. Animation library, Jayro oversees the production of the Wacky Races reboot and The Tom and Jerry Show.

Cartoon Network Latin America and Mexican animation festival Pixelatl have teamed up once again for a animation pitching contest – Girl Power: Pitch Me The Future, in previous years, Cartoon Network and Pixelatl has organised pitching contests with different themes such as 2016’s Pitch Me Anything (for content on the Cartoon Network Anything app) and 2017’s Pitch Me Evolution (for YouTube content).

Girl Power: Pitch Me The Future will be an opportunity for female animators and creators to pitch their show ideas to Cartoon Network, however potential projects must fit into Cartoon Network’s editorial values, must be a original idea and different to anything else currently on the channel and must have a multiplatform approach, this may include short-form content or offer an interactive experience. The proposed project must have humour and authenticity in mind and all entrants must be 18 and over and live in a Latin American country.

To enter the pitching competition, go to the Girl Power competition page – http://www.convocatoriaspixelatl.com/girlpower and fill in the online form, up to three projects per participant are allowed, pitch bibles must be uploaded onto a storage service that don’t have an expiration date such as Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, the URL for the pitch bible must be provided on the submission form.

All projects must be submitted by Sunday 5th August 2018 and a minimum of five finalist projects will be selected which will be announced on Friday 10th August by Pixelatl. Finalists must attend the Pixelatl Animation Festival in Cuernavaca, Mexico between 4th and 8th September 2018, where they will have the opportunity to pitch their projects in-front of Cartoon Network executives. The first place winner will get the opportunity to produce their very own pilot episode up to the value of $10,000 USD.

Toontorials Winner Of Cartoon Network Latin America’s And Pixelatl’s Pitch Me Evolution Competition

Cartoon Network Latin America and the Pixelatl Animation Festival has announced the winning project of their Pitch Me Evolution competition – Toontorials. This year, there were nine finalists, with Toontorials chosen as the winner. Toontorials was a pitch idea put forward by Mexican comic book artist – Axur Eneas and Mexico City based animation studio – Cinema Fantasma. Toontorials features animated tutorials for simple everyday tasks but made ridiculously over-complicated and unnecessary, an given example is finding a cyclops to open a can of beans. Axur Eneas and Cinema Fantasma have won $10,000 USD towards the production costs for a pilot episode, with an opportunity for the pilot to be publicly displayed on Cartoon Network Latin America’s digital platforms. Cinema Fantasma has previously worked with Cartoon Network Latin America to produce animated bumpers for the channel.

Regarding the winning project, Hernán La Greca, Senior Creative Director of Original Production at Cartoon Network said (translated):

“We are very happy to continue collaborating with Pixelatl and to once again give the opportunity to new talent in Latin America to display their creativity and have a place on our screens. The winning project was selected for its originality, humour and versatility, keeping in with what our fans expect from Cartoon Network’s entertainment experience on our YouTube channels.”

“Pixelatl has established itself as the talent launching platform in the region, where the different disciplines, visions and proposals of artists come together and mix. Proof of the above is the trust that Cartoon Network has placed in the festival”.
