Children’s Anime Series Bakugan Revived For A New Animated Series – Bakugan Battle Planet Coming Soon To Cartoon Network USA, Latin America, EMEA And Australia

Toy company – Spin Master, Japanese anime production company – TMS, Canadian animation company – Nelvana and Cartoon Network have teamed up to revive the popular Bakugan franchise for a global relaunch. The franchise has been revived for its tenth anniversary. Bakugan originally launched in 2008 and became an international success with a popular animated series and toy range. The animated series – Bakugan Battle Brawlers had a run of four seasons, which aired on Cartoon Network in several countries worldwide (between 2007 and 2012), the series also had a successful toy range. Bakugan was named Toy of the Year and License Property of the Year in 2009. The Bakugan franchise will be managed by a joint production committee managing a coordinated project which will include toys and a toy-based animated series.

The new series named “Bakugan Battle Planet” will air in most territories where Cartoon Network is present including the United States, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), Latin America as well as Australia and New Zealand, the only notable exceptions are Canada and the rest of the Asia-Pacific region. In Canada, Bakugan Battle Planet will air on Teletoon (owned by Corus, who also own Nelvana and also operates Cartoon Network in Canada). The animated series is expected to premiere in North America in December 2018, and will premiere in Latin America and EMEA in 2019.

The new animated series will follow the adventures of Dan and his friends, who are the first kids on Earth to bond with the Bakugan – a mysterious race of alien creatures. Episode storylines will feature friendship as a major theme as well as battling and competition.

The Bakugan Battle Planet toy line will be very similar to the franchise’s previous incarnation but will also include new features that will bring together revolutionary card and app play. The new marble-like ball toys can instantly transform into multiple collectible characters when rolled over a magnetic card. The game will have different levels of difficulty ranging from beginner to advanced and will also allow the ability to compete against multiple opponents. The game will offer enhanced collectability because of the wide range of strategy options that are available to players.

The toy line will launch in North America and other select markets in the first quarter of 2019 and will be rolled out globally from the second quarter of 2019. Along with broadcasting rights, Cartoon Network Enterprises will be managing the product licensing program for Bakugan Battle Planet in all territories outside of Asia of which will be available at retail from 2019. In Asia, Takara Tomy will launch the toy line in Japan and TMS will manage the distribution of the toy range, animated series as well as the related licensing programme.

This week (23/01/2018 to 25/01/2018) was the 2018 Toy Fair at the Olympia exhibition centre in London, UK. The annually-held convention is an opportunity for toy manufacturers to promote and demonstrate their latest toys to attract potential retailers and customers. This year, Cartoon Network’s owners – Turner was a sponsor of the event and sponsored a cafe in the exhibition centre during the convention. The master toy licensee for Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls – Spin Master and distributor for Ben 10 toys for the UK market (on behalf of Playmates Toys) – Flair were also present at the event.

The day before the opening of this year’s Toy Fair, Cartoon Network Enterprises, the product and service licensing division of Cartoon Network already announced a second wave of toys for the newly rebooted Ben 10 animated series. New toys will include Heatblast Rocket Flyer, Diamondhead Power Tank vehicles, Omni-Enhanced figurines and also Omni-Launch battle figurines.

This year, Cartoon Network will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Powerpuff Girls, the full series premiered on Cartoon Network in the United States on 18th November 1998, the show eventually became one of Cartoon Network’s most iconic animated series appealing to both girls and boys all over the world. The animated series followed the daily-lives of three unlikely superheroes, three kindergarten-aged (school-aged in the 2016 reboot) girls named Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, it’s their duty to save Townsville and the world from destruction before bedtime while still trying to live a normal childhood. The 20th anniversary celebrations will begin next month with the global rollout of new episodes, events and products that will continue into 2019.
