Fifteen Celebrities To Voice Fourth Powerpuff Girl In Europe, Middle East, Africa And Australia

Last night (17/09/2017), Cartoon Network USA aired the five-part Powerpuff Girls movie special – Power Of Four, the special introduced the fourth Powerpuff Girl – Bliss (Full name: Blisstina Francesca Francia Mariam Alicia Utonium), who actually was created by Professor Utonium years before the super-powered trio we know and love. Bliss was emotionally unstable, with the fear and shame of using her powers for destructive purposes, she moved to a deserted island far away and now she’s ready to return.

As correctly analysed and stated by this blog based on the evidence available at the time, South African musician – Toya Delazy will only be voicing Bliss in the African version of the special. The Power of Four special will air on Cartoon Network Africa on Saturday 21st October at 7.05am CAT. In the USA version, Olivia Olson (better known as the voice for Marceline in Adventure Time) voiced Bliss.

The role of the fourth Powerpuff Girl will be portrayed by fifteen different celebrities in Europe, Middle East and Africa and also Australia and New Zealand. Cartoon Network Australia (which also includes New Zealand) has already announced that the character will be played by the Australian YouTuber – Wengie (real name Wendy Ayche). In Australia and New Zealand, the special will also premiere on Cartoon Network Australia between Saturday 23rd – Sunday 24th September at 10am. The special will also air on Cartoon Network India and Cartoon Network Pakistan this Saturday (23/09/2017).

UPDATE: The special will also air on Cartoon Network Southeast Asia this weekend, three episodes will premiere on Saturday at 11.30am and two more on Sunday also at 11.30am.

In a statement regarding the several different voice actresses for the fourth Powerpuff Girl, Cartoon Network said:

“Cartoon Network has joined forces with 15 super-powered celebrities across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australia who will each lend their voice to the newly revealed 4th Powerpuff Girl. The first local celebrities to be named as the voice of this mysterious fourth Powerpuff Girl are South Africa’s hip-hop sensation Toya Delazy, who will star as the character across Africa, and Australian YouTuber Wengie, who has voiced the character for Australia and New Zealand.”

One of Cartoon Network’s new shows is now airing on free-to-air television in Australia and New Zealand. From Saturday 15th April, Ben 10 has been airing as part of 9Go!’s Kids WB programming block in Australia. In New Zealand, the new Ben 10 series premiered on Wednesday 12th April on state-owned broadcaster TVNZ 2. Ben 10 is airing on weekdays on both 9Go! and TVNZ 2. The free-to-air broadcasting rights for Ben 10 expands on the current SVOD deal with Stan in Australia as well as pay-tv providers Foxtel and Fetch in Australia and Sky in New Zealand, which distribute the Cartoon Network Australia TV channel to their subscribers. Viewers can also watch episodes of Ben 10 through the Cartoon Network Watch and Play app.

Several broadcasters from different parts of the world have already brought the FTA broadcasting rights for Ben 10, including CITV in the UK, Gulli in France and GMA in the Philippines. Alongside the new Powerpuff Girls series, both shows have generated a lot of interest amongst national FTA broadcasters who are looking for new content to expand upon their current children’s programming offering.

Cartoon Network won “2017 Action Toy of the Year” for its new Ben 10 Rust Bucket RV toy at the annual Toy Fair Gala Dinner in Melbourne last month. The new Ben 10 toy range is predicted to be a huge favourite for boys this year.

Ben 10, Cartoon Network’s biggest ever franchise, is extending its reach across multiple platforms and into more Australian and New Zealand homes this month with new free-to-air partnerships.

New agreements with 9Go! and TVNZ2 complement its existing distribution on pay-TV and SVOD platforms including Foxtel, Stan, Fetch and Sky New Zealand. Ben 10 is also available through the Cartoon Network Watch and Play app.

Robi Stanton, Turner’s General Manager for Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, said:

“Ben 10 has always been big, but these deals catapult the series to new heights. It returned to screens in this region in late 2016 and reminded us of the show’s fun and adventure. With these distribution deals now in place, Ben Tennyson, along with his sister Gwen and Grandpa Max, is all set to entertain even more kids and families than ever before.”

The series kicked off with a feature in Kids WB on April 15 and is currently airing on weekdays from April 17 on 9Go! in Australia, and on weekdays from April 12 on TVNZ 2 in New Zealand.

Ahead of its June debut, expectations are high for the launch of the full collection of Ben 10 toys. Cartoon Network won “2017 Action Toy of the Year” with its new Rust Bucket toy at the
annual Toy Fair Gala Dinner in Melbourne last month. The range is predicted to be a huge favourite this year for boys.

This week (03/04/2017 – 06/04/2017) was the MIPTV (Marché International des Programmes de Télévision, English: Television Programmes International Market) convention in Cannes, France, a major event in the television content market calendar. The MIPTV convention is an opportunity for broadcasters and content creators to promote their shows and to potentially sell broadcast rights to broadcasters.

Turner (owners of Cartoon Network and Boomerang) was present at the convention; promoting their programming for children and for general audiences, including productions from TNT and TBS in the United States as well as Cartoon Network Studios and Williams Street (Adult Swim). Two Cartoon Network Studios productions, in particular, have generated a lot of interest – The Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10. So far, rights for The Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10 have been picked by British children’s free-to-air channel, CITV, Gulli in France and Stan, a SVOD (Subscription Video on-demand) service in Australia. Disney Channel Germany and TV5 in the Philippines have purchased rights to air the new Powerpuff Girls series, while GMA in the Philippines has picked up the the rights to air Ben 10.

Other promoted programming from Cartoon Network other than The Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10 include Mighty Magiswords, The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time, We Bare Bears and also Boomerang’s original series – The Happos Family. Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty, Robot Chicken and Samurai Jack were also promoted.

MIPTV also has a sister convention that runs in October called MIPCOM. MIPCOM has a side event called MIPJunior which is a major international children’s media industry convention.

Turner has today revealed details of key shows from its extensive programming line-up to have been sold across international markets, as well as the strong slate of new and returning series that it will present at MIPTV 2017.

Following its recent surge in original content for TNT and TBS, TNT drama Good Behavior has been picked up by OCS (France), Telecom Italia (Italy), Fox (Finland), Cellcom and HOT (Israel), Stan (Australia), and NEON and SKY (New Zealand). The show is now available to audiences in more than 20 markets worldwide. Added to this, new TBS comedy Search Party has been sold to All4 (UK), OCS (France) and Cellcom (Israel), with other deals on the horizon. Both shows have been renewed for a second season.

From its kids’ portfolio, Cartoon Network’s two 2016 franchise revivals The Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10 are also generating significant interest from international buyers. To date, both shows have been snapped up by CITV (UK), Gulli (France) and Stan (Australia), while Disney Channel (Germany) and TV5 (Philippines) have picked up The Powerpuff Girls and GMA (Philippines) has picked up Ben 10.

Alongside these, Turner is also bringing a varied and exciting set of programming to MIPTV. This includes: new dramas 4 Blocks (from TNT Serie in Germany) and Will (TNT), the former having recently premiered at the prestigious Berlinale Film Festival and lined up for screenings at MIPTV (presented by series creator Quirin Berg) and Series Mania in France; new comedies I’m Sorry and Those Who Can’t (both truTV); Adult Swim’s hit animated series Rick and Morty, Robot Chicken and Samurai Jack; and kids’ series Mighty Magiswords, The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time, We Bare Bears (all Cartoon Network) and first Boomerang Original The Happos Family.
