OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo New Mobile Game Released Today

Cartoon Network has released a new free game for iOS and Android devices today called OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo, the game originated as a pilot episode known as “Lakewood Plaza Turbo” which was created by Ian Jones-Quartey, known for his production work on Steven Universe, Secret Mountain Fort Awesome, Adventure Time and The Venture Bros. Set in the year 201X, the story of Lakewood Plaza Turbo follows a young fighting champion named K.O. who battles with Lord Boxman and his army of robots to destroy a local strip mall. Meanwhile, K.O.’s mom, Carol, is always teaching him new fighting techniques. Cartoon Network Studios will also open the game’s intellectual property to 200 independent developers through a Cartoon Network Game Jam innovation festival, the festival will be held between Friday 12th February and Sunday 14th February in Portland, Oregon, USA.

Cartoon Network president and general manager Christina Miller made this statement regarding the usage of other forms of media rather than just animation to appeal to audiences and opening up source code can help develop new ideas:

“This is definitely a first for us, opening up the process and bringing in a group of leading mobile game developers, Open-source behavior really speaks to our overarching strategy in driving creative expression and innovation for our brand in different ways and really looking at content in a unique way, not a standard, linear way. I think some things we’ve learned about this audience is that they demand choice and control whereas the millennial generation that came before needed greater filters—point me in this direction, and give me this list. This generation, the plurals, 17 and under, they really see it as choice and control—give me everything, and I will sort through it. They’ve grown up in an environment where there’s always been networks for them, so they expect extensions on every single platform.”

Adult Swim timeshares with Cartoon Network in the USA at night, but is treated as a separate channel for Nielsen ratings purposes, as Adult Swim serves an older demographic.

Note: It is important to note that this content is not appropriate for children. The content is aired post-watershed and on a general entertainment channel that also airs other adult content and is not airing on a children’s channel. This complies with the Ofcom (The UK’s broadcasting regulator) broadcasting code.
