In this week’s episode of Cartoon Network USA’s weekly YouTube series – Cartoon Network This Week, Rebecca Sugar – creator of the cult animated hit series – Steven Universe shows off her sketchbook featuring early (pre-pilot) concept designs of some of the show’s characters, including Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst, Steven and Connie. From now on, the sketchbook segment will be a recurring show segment. From Monday (2nd July) to Friday (6th July) at 7pm ET/PT, Cartoon Network USA will be airing a five part special – “Heart of the Crystal Gems”.

OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes’ creator Ian Jones-Quartey and co-executive producer Toby Jones answer questions submitted by fans via the CN Sayin’ app. From 7am ET/PT on Monday (2nd July), Cartoon Network USA will be airing a new episode of OK K.O! Let’s Be Heroes every hour up until 11am, a total of new episodes will air, afterwards, the same new episodes are repeated in a five hour cycle throughout the rest of the day. The game Cartoon Network Superstar Soccer Goal!!! has been updated to include two new characters – KO and Enid.

Also, Cartoon Network’s newest animated series – Summer Camp Island will premiere next Saturday (7th July) at 6am (ET/PT) as part of a 48 hour takeover airing on both Cartoon Network and Boomerang, a total of twenty new episodes will air.

In this week’s episode of Cartoon Network’s YouTube series – Cartoon Network This Week, Sam visits Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, California to show viewers the seven coolest things about the animation studio. During his time at the studio, Sam enjoys free pancakes and cereal, checks out the studio’s very own video game arcade, meets up with Max, the voice of Baby Panda on We Bare Bears in the recording studio and plays ping-pong with Michaela Dietz, the voice of Amethyst on Steven Universe.

Also, in this week’s episode, OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes executive producers – Ian Jones-Quartey and Toby Jones gives viewers a little insight into the first batch of twelve episodes from the show’s second season, in these twelve episodes, viewers will find out what happens to Lord Boxman and there’s going to be some special episodes with side-characters including KO’s brainy friend – Dendy and Red Action – a cyborg from the future who lives in the show’s present day.

Cartoon Network Studios has a tradition to make character piñatas from each show it produces, as well as show artwork which is on display in the corridors of the studio. At the studio, there’s a plaque commemorating the opening of the Cartoon Network Studios building by Joseph Barbera. Joseph Barbera was the co-owner of animation studio – Hanna-Barbera, which later became known as Cartoon Network Studios. Another CN Studios tradition is the graffiti stairwell, this where the crew from each show can leave their mark by drawing their own cartoon characters.

Cartoon Network USA San Diego Comic Con 2017 Friday 21st July Overview

Friday (21/07/2017) was Cartoon Network’s main day at San Diego Comic-Con 2017, probably the most important annual convention for pop-culture in North America and the world. During Friday, there were two panels for productions by Cartoon Network Studios – OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes and Steven Universe.

First of all, it was Cartoon Network’s opportunity to introduce their new upcoming show – OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes, this was an opportunity for animation fans to see exclusive footage of the action-comedy animated series and ask questions about the show. The panel consisted of Ian-Jones Quartey (creator and voice of Rad), Toby Jones (co-executive producer), Courtenay Taylor (voice of K.O.), Kate Flannery (voice of Carol), and Dan Vader (lead writer/designer at Capybara Games, developed the new OK K.O. Let’s Be Heroes game).

Next up, was the Steven Universe panel with Rebecca Sugar (creator), Deedee Magno-Hall (voice of Pearl), Michaela Dietz (voice of Amethyst), Estelle Darlings (voice of Garnet), and A.J. Michalka (voice of Stevonnie) with half-Gem/half-human Steven Universe – Zach Callison as a half guest and half moderator. At the panel, Steven Universe fans got to see a preview of the upcoming game console game – Steven Universe: Save The Light, the game will introduce a character very similar to Peridot but with a square-shaped head called Squaridot. Estelle, Rebecca Sugar and A.J. Michalka also did a surprise live performance of “Here Comes A Thought” and there was also a live script reading with the voice talent of the show.

Afterwards, there was the Steven Universe autograph session, this is an opportunity to meet Rebecca Sugar and the some of the main cast from the show.

There was also a live Steven Universe Q&A session on Cartoon Network USA’s YouTube account, with voice actresses Shelby Rabara, Deedee Magno Hall and Michaela Dietz, this was an opportunity for fans to get their questions answered by Peridot, Pearl and Amethyst.

Today (Sunday 23rd July), the official Steven Universe “Stronger Than You” music video with Estelle Darlings will be recorded at 3pm at the Horton Plaza Park in San Diego, anyone can take part in the sing-along.
