Today (20th June), Turner EMEA has announced its first direct-to-consumer service for kids – Toonix. The OTT (Over The Top, meaning a service provided over a standard internet connection) streaming service – Toonix will have its very own app in the Nordic (Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland) region later this summer and will include all national languages as well as English. The new service will be ad-free and will feature a comprehensive animation library including animated shows and movies from Cartoon Network, Warner Bros. Animation and also third-party and local productions. The app has been designed for kids in mind, offers an easy to use interface and also games.

In the Nordics region, the Toonix brand launched in 2017 as a branded kids section as part of HBO Nordic’s service, Toonix is available to HBO Nordic’s subscribers at no extra cost. Alongside with the partnership of Turner’s and Warner Bros. sister company – HBO, Toonix will now be available as a direct to consumer service. The service will feature popular cartoons including Adventure Time, Teen Titans Go!, Peppa Pig, The Amazing World of Gumball, Scooby-Doo, Barbapapa, Masha and the Bear, Bamse and the City of Thieves and Lego Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite.

The Toonix brand originated from Cartoon Network’s avatar character maker as seen on several Cartoon Network websites all over the world, where kids can create a cute version of themselves or recreate a popular cartoon character. Many of these Toonix characters can been seen on the streaming service. Cartoon Network Latin America also had a branding era called “Toonix” which features many of Cartoon Network’s characters in Toonix form, this was also Cartoon Network Latin America’s version of Cartoon Network USA’s Noods era.

Turner EMEA announced today its first-ever direct-to-consumer kids OTT service, with the launch of the Toonix app across the Nordic region later this summer. The new ad-free service caters to kids (ages 3-12) and their families, offering some of the most popular shows and movies. Today (15/01/2018) Turner Asia-Pacific and Singapore-based luxury cruise line management company – Oceanic Group have announced that they have partnered up to offer the world’s first ever Cartoon Network-themed cruise ship – Cartoon Network Wave. For the first time ever, some of the world’s most famous cartoon characters will be setting sail on their very own cruise ship. The ship will set off on its maiden voyage from its home port of Singapore in late 2018.

Cartoon Network Wave will have 11 guest-decks, with an on-board capacity of around 2,000 guests and will feature the world’s first triplex cabins on a cruise ship. the ship will be an enjoyable experience for families with young children and cartoon fans everywhere, offering the feeling of an ocean voyage adventure with their favourite characters. Different sections of the ship will be themed after a wide selection of the channel’s most iconic shows, including Adventure Time, Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls and We Bare Bears. During a cruise on Cartoon Network Wave, guests will get to enjoy a wide choice of entertainment (outdoor deck party area and Toonix Play and Learn area), recreational activities and themed retail and restaurant areas. The ship will have a character filled livery with Adventure Time’s Jake covering the ship’s bow.

Cartoon Network Wave will be sailing to thirteen popular destinations in the Asia-Pacific region, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia and Japan. Set to make its maiden voyage from its home port of Singapore in late 2018, the 11 guest-deck, 2,000-guest Cartoon Network Wave will be one vast haven for toon-loving travellers. With the ocean as a backdrop, families will enjoy the world’s first immersive Toon vacation at sea, and an adventure with their favourite Cartoon Network stars.

While there are many existing projects by Turner’s location-based entertainment team including Cartoon Network-branded restaurants, theme parks, waterparks around the world – and even planes and trains – this is the first time anywhere that a cruise liner has undergone a full Cartoon Network transformation.

The theming and entire onboard experience of Cartoon Network Wave is inspired by Cartoon Network’s universe of well-loved characters from iconic shows such as Adventure Time, Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls and We Bare Bears. This includes a variety of diverse entertainment, activity and recreation features, as well as retail and food and beverage options.

Cartoon Network Wave will be docked at the Singapore Cruise Centre and will sail to 13 popular destinations in the Asia Pacific region including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia and Japan. Bringing to life the world’s first Cartoon-Network themed cruise

Oceanic Group formalised its partnership with Turner in a signing ceremony this morning in Singapore, marking the official launch of Cartoon Network Wave, the world’s first Cartoon Network-themed cruise and Singapore’s first homegrown contemporary cruise product.

Oceanic Group’s Chief Executive Mr Daniel Chui said the partnership represents the company’s commitment to capitalise on Asia’s growing cruise travel market. “A homegrown cruise project, Cartoon Network Wave heralds the start of a new vacation experience for cruise-goers in Asia where cruise travel meets personalised journeys through experiential story-telling. The brand new streaming service launched yesterday (03/10/2017). The new VOD service feature a mix of animated television shows and movies, especially content from Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. Animation aimed for kids aged between 3 and 12 years old.

The new service has more than 2000 episodes of Cartoon Network’s and Boomerang’s most popular shows and is available for no additional cost to existing HBO Nordic subscribers.
