Last Monday (23rd July), the world’s first-ever Warner Bros. branded indoor theme park formally opened at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi with an inauguration ceremony with Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The theme park fully opened to the public two days later on Wednesday 25th July, with a special cinema spectacular and public opening ceremony the night before (24th July).

The brand new theme park is called Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi and features six immersive lands with loads of rides and attractions. Themed lands include DC’s Metropolis and Gotham City, Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch and Warner Bros. Plaza. The theme park features a total of 29 rides, interactive attractions and live entertainment and also themed restaurants and shops. At 1.65 million square feet, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is one of the world’s largest indoor theme parks and brings together some of the most famous characters in film, television and comics all under one roof all from one of the most famous entertainment companies in the world, including DC Comics’ Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman; Warner Bros. Animation’s Looney Tunes, Hanna-Barbera’s Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones and Tom & Jerry. The brand new theme park was developed by Miral, Abu Dhabi’s entertainment asset and investment company, in partnership with Cartoon Network’s sister company within the WarnerMedia group – Warner Bros. Entertainment. A total of around $1 billion has been invested into the new theme park.

When visitors enter the theme park, they’re welcomed to an art deco themed town portal area which will take them to the different lands in the theme park, they can go on a Justice League superhero adventure in Metropolis or visit the dark, crime ridden streets of Gotham City inhabited by villainous masterminds such as the Joker and Harley Quinn, but there’s always Batman to foil their evil plans. After the darkness of Gotham City, visitors could revisit their childhood by entering Cartoon Junction, a place of blue skies, fluffy clouds and much loved cartoon characters, alternatively there’s the dunes of Dynamite Gulch filled with animated antics and mayhem or there’s an option to go back in time to the Stone Age and meet The Flintstones and The Rubbles in Bedrock.

Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi is the latest addition to Yas Island – a multi-purpose entertainment and shopping complex. Yas Island has other theme parks such as Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi and the upcoming attraction, CLYMB – soon to be the world’s tallest climbing wall. Their Highnesses attended the official inauguration ceremony, which took place in the Warner Bros. Plaza at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi. The ceremony included the first screening of the Warner Bros. Cinema Spectacular, a captivating show that brings Warner Bros.’ unparalleled film library to life. Guests were also treated to a series of festive celebrations incorporating the park’s beloved characters.

Sheikh Zayed bin Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Saif and Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan then took the stage alongside some of the park’s iconic DC and Warner Bros. Animation characters to press a button marking the official opening of the highly anticipated theme park, which is expected to draw in thousands of guests including residents and tourists of all ages.

Following the opening ceremony His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed toured the park, which officially opens to the public on the 25th of July. The opening of the Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi marks the latest addition to Yas Island’s offering of world-class tourism and entertainment attractions, and serves to strengthen the island’s position as a leading leisure and entertainment destination in Abu Dhabi, further enhancing UAE’s distinguished position on the world map.

During the tour, their Highnesses were briefed on the many elements which help bring the park’s immersive environments to life across its six lands. From the meticulously curated musical arrangements to the faithfully created landscapes, each land is uniquely designed to truly immerse guests in the places they’ve seen in movies, comic books and on TV.

Their Highnesses also learned of the different stages of development which the park underwent as well as its adherence to the internationally recognized best practices and rigorous health and safety standards to ensure the wellbeing of its guests. During the tour, their Highnesses also visited the park’s wide array of facilities and state-of-the-art attractions.

Today (28/03/2018), Turner Asia-Pacific has announced that Vikram Sharma has been appointed as the new Vice President of Cartoon Network Enterprises for the region. Cartoon Network Enterprises is Cartoon Network’s product merchandising and service licensing division. As the division’s new vice president, Vikram will be responsible for driving sales across the region for Cartoon Network branded toys, clothing, home entertainment, publishing, lifestyle products as well as live events and themed entertainment. Cartoon Network’s popular IPs include Ben 10, We Bare Bears, Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball and The Powerpuff Girls. Cartoon Network Enterprises Asia-Pacific is also responsible for licensing for Adult Swim shows, including Rick and Morty, the emoticon rabbit Tzuki and it also acts as an representative of Warner Bros. Turner Asia Pacific has appointed Vikram Sharma Vice President of Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE), its regional licensing and merchandising division.

Joining Turner in March, Mr Sharma is tasked with driving sales across the whole region for its branded toys, apparel, home entertainment, publishing and lifestyle products, as well as live events and themed entertainment. Major franchises and IP under CNE’s management from the Cartoon Network portfolio of shows including Ben 10, We Bare Bears, Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball and The Powerpuff Girls, as well as Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty.

His remit also includes the management of Tuzki, the digital IP and emoticon of choice in China and beyond. In South Asia, Turner acts as a representative for Warner Bros. Consumer Products.

Ricky Ow, President of Turner Asia Pacific, said: “The potential of the CNE business is immense and with Vikram leading the charge, we know it can be realised. He’s a proven commercial leader with successful stints in overall P&L management and in different aspects of sales and distribution, with a special focus on retail and franchise monetization. Most recently he led Disney’s consumer products business in Thailand, a key location for Turner’s CNE business.

Warner Bros. Get Animated Invasion Pop-Up Store Opens 6th October

For three days only (Friday 6th and Saturday 8th October) during this year’s New York Comic-Con (5th to 8th October), Warner Bros. and Turner’s Boomerang will be opening a pop-up store in the SoHo district of New York City. The store will be called “Get Animated Invasion” and it celebrates the cartoons produced by both Warner Bros. Animation and Hanna-Barbera throughout their history. The special pop-up store will feature a 360 degree immersive experience and visitors will get to see Wile E. Coyote’s ridiculously high cliff, go a scary adventure through Scooby Doo’s Spooky Woods and go back in time to Bedrock as featured in The Flintstones. The store will of course feature all-new themed merchandise including clothing, accessories and gifts.

The store will be run in partnership with pop-culture merchandise store chain – BoxLunch, the merchandise that will be on sale in the store will also be available to buy at BoxLunch locations and on their website from Monday 2nd October. Flintstones Ice Cream treats produced by New York’s Milk & Cream Cereal Bar will also be available at the store.

In a statement about the new pop-up store, Warner Bros. Consumer Products president Pam Lifford said:

“We’re excited for fans to experience this new creative way to step into the world of their favorite animated character. The Get Animated Invasion pushes the boundaries of fan engagement, blurring the lines between art, content and commerce.”

The pop-up store will be open between 12pm to 7pm and will be located at 107 Grand Street, in-between Broadway and Mercer Street in Manhattan. Register now on the Get Animated Invasion website to RSVP for tickets, for those who aren’t able to get a ticket, the store will be having “walk-ins” too.
