Adult Swim And Crunchyroll To Produce New Blade Runner Anime Series

WarnerMedia properties – Turner’s Adult Swim and Ellation’s Crunchyroll have partnered with Alcon Television Group to produce and distribute a new anime series based on the 2017 Oscar-winning movie Blade Runner 2049 (which is a sequel of the 1982 neo-noir science fiction film – Blade Runner) called Blade Runner: Black Lotus.

Blade Runner: Black Lotus will have thirteen 30-minute episodes produced by Japanese animation studio Sola Digital Arts (the same studio behind the new Ultraman anime series coming to Netflix in 2019). Shinji Aramaki (director of three Appleseed anime movies) and Kenji Kamiyama (director of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) will direct all episodes of the premiere season, both will work on the new anime after the upcoming Ghost in the Shell series reboot. Shinichiro Watanabe (director of Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) will be serving as a creative producer on the new series.

At present, the plot for Blade Runner: Black Lotus remains a secret, however, the producers did disclose some info about the show, the new series will take place in the year 2032 and will include some characters from the Blade Runner universe.

Adult Swim will have the worldwide rights (excluding Asia) to distribute the English dubbed version of the series and will air the English dubbed episodes of Blade Runner: Black Lotus on Adult Swim’s anime programming block – Toonami. Crunchyroll will handle the rights for streaming worldwide for its 45 million registered users and 2 million subscribers. Adult Swim and Crunchyroll also collaborated to distribute Mob Psycho 100, another anime series that debuted on Toonami in October, also there’s many more anime shows in the pipeline too.

Alcon Television Group’s Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Al-Francis Cuenca, and Sola Digital Art’s Joseph Chou will executive produce the new series. Alcon executive Ben Roberts will serve as co-executive producer. Production IG’s Mitsuhisa Ishikawa will be contributing to the project as a production advisor.

Teletoon Canada New Episodes Of The Amazing World Of Gumball, We Bare Bears And Teen Titans Go! This Autumn

This Autumn, Teletoon Canada will be airing new episodes of The Amazing World of Gumball, We Bare Bears and Teen Titans Go! this Autumn, at present there’s no date or times given for the new episodes. Teletoon’s very own Wishfart animated series will have new episodes this Autumn (Wishfart has also aired on Cartoon Network UK and Cartoon Network Africa). Teletoon’s owner – Corus Entertainment owns the broadcasting rights to Cartoon Network’s shows in the Canadian market and owns and operates Cartoon Network Canada on Turner’s behalf.

On Teletoon this September, there’s also two new shows that are created by people who also created shows for Cartoon Network. The new TV animated series based on the successful online animated series of the same name – Bravest Warriors will debut next Monday (3rd September) on Teletoon, with back-to-back episodes at 8pm ET and 8.30pm ET. After the show’s premiere, the series will air Monday to Friday at 8pm ET starting from Tuesday 4th September. The new show is created by the creator of Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time – Pendleton Ward. The animated series follows a team of teenaged heroes-for-hire warping through the universe saving cute aliens using their emotions. The new series is produced by Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana in-association with Federator Studios, WarnerMedia’s U.S. based VRV streaming service has exclusivity rights over the new TV show in the United States.

Also next Monday (3rd September), Teletoon will premiere another new show – Cupcake and Dino: General Services created by Pedro Eboli – the creator of Cartoon Network Latin America’s and Birdo Studio’s Oswaldo. The new show follows Cupcake, a pastry with a Napoleon complex, and his fun-loving brother, Dino both try to get themselves known in the highly competitive general services industry. Cupcake and Dino: General Services will premiere on Monday 3rd September with back-to-back episodes at 6pm ET and 6.30pm ET. After the premiere, the show will air on Saturdays at 10am and 10.30am.

On Sunday 7th October at 6.30pm ET, Teletoon Canada will air premiere another new series – Total Dramarama, a prequel to Total Drama Island, the series follows the pre-school lives of Total Drama’s characters in a daycare centre, Total Dramarama premiered on Cartoon Network USA this morning (1st September) at 9am.
